$475/mo. for a $55K+ car is pretty hard to do.. You could save some money by trimming your option list..

So I got these breakdown for now without negotiating.
    MSRP - $55625
    Selling price - $50995
    Money factor - .00130
    Residual - 63% or $35043.75
    Monthly payment - $503 + tax

    The fees look like this...

    Acqusition fee - $925
    Cap Reduction - $1770.61
Tax on Cap reduction - $141
    Registration & licensing - $545
    Doc fee - $80
    Electronic filing fee - $29
    Ca tire tax - $7
    Ca other - $8
    Smog Abate - $20

So do I need 2k more to get to $475 ? Total out of pocket would be 5525.61 ? Is this correct?
We email so its hard to get all info at once cause she give me only partial info. Took me 2 emails to get this breakdown.
    Thanks

On the '14 328xi MF is 0.00130, 62% on that basis. On the 428xi it's same MF, 63% RV. 3 Series has $1.5k Option Credit, 4 Series has $1k. Hope this helps.

It's the first time I'm leasing a car and I'm pretty sure this is a good deal but want to make sure.

I got this email response from a dealer for a 328i with MSRP $41,325

"I will sell you the car at $36560. The money factor is 000111 and the residual is 61%.
The out of pocket is $3150 in RSD's, first payment of $435.23, fees of $923.50 which
includes my dealer fee of $689 and tag, title and registration of $450 for new tag. I refund
you any unused portion of the $450 that the state doesnt charge. I hope we can do business."

Is this a good deal? Did he mean to say .00111 MF and do I subtract .00049 for the MSD's that Im putting down? What about the $1500 for the incentive?

    Thanks

It appears he is marking up the money factor to .00160 and then giving you the MSD reduction. Base MF is .00130. He doesn't state the acquisition fee. It's probably rolled into the lease payment, and likely to be marked up as well ($725 base.. $925 max). Also, a dealer fee of $689 may be usual for your state (Florida?), but it's still all profit. And, he probably can't knock almost $5K off the MSRP, without the option credit already included in the deal.

If I add $925 on to the selling price, I get a payment of about $410/mo.+tax, which is pretty close to your $435./mo.

With $725 added, and the base MF of .00081, I get $386/mo. plus tax.. A difference of about $25/mo.post-tax.

I don't know what to say about that $689 dealer fee.... it's terrible. But, if you got the price down to $410/mo. including tax, even with that dealer fee... It would be a decent deal.

Can you please help me with money factor and residual for 328d 328i xdrive. I'm looking at 15K per year 36 month lease and live in NJ. And does anyone know if they're leasing 18K? If so, MF and resid info for that as well would be awesome. Thank you!

.00130 MF and 59% residual for either diesel or gas. $1500 incentive on gas, $2250 on diesel.

For an 18K/yr lease, they will reduce the residual by (9000 X $0.15/mi.) over the 15K/yr lease (or, maybe it's $0.20/mi.)

Went to BMW yesterday to gets some numbers.

Bmw 328i xdrive as configured it would have to be special ordered:
    $47125msrp
$42600 sale price (incl. $1500 BMW incentive)
    36/10
    62%
    .00081 after 7 msd's
    I pay $2200 in tax/fees upfront
    $5382.20 total incl 7 msd's

    payment = 456 incl. 6.25 ma tax.

He said they're making a $300 profit at these numbers.

sound like a good deal? ideally I'd like to get it down to the 430-440 range.

You are getting the base MF of .00130 (.00081 after MSD), so no inflation there.

To get to $430/mo you have to find another $900 or so of savings ... can you get the dealer to come down that much on the selling price?

Thank you for the June MF and RV numbers. I have another question regarding drive-off fees. I know Edmunds recommends no money down to start the lease, but is that realistic? Will a dealer ever roll the Reg, Acq and Doc fees into the selling price and only ask for the first month's lease payment at the signing? Regarding the Acq fee of $725 is it ever negotiable? It doesn't seem a dealer would ever discount that number. The only flexibility I see is with the Doc fee and even that seems set in stone. My current lease I paid $1,100 in drive-off fees not including the first month's payment. Is my thinking correct?

Let's clarify - 'money down' and 'start up costs' are two different things.

'Money down' is like a down payment when buying - and we recommend not doing that.

'Start up costs', however, include up-front fees and taxes, some of which can be rolled into the lease (resulting in a higher payment) or can be paid up front at lease inception. The acquisition fee cannot be lowered from the base rate set by the finance company. Doc fees are dealt with on a state-by-state basis (CA caps them at $80; FL, on the other hand, has doc fees as high as $800), and can be mitigated by negotiating a lower selling price.

Taxes also vary based on state. NJ, for example, requires that the sales tax for the duration of the lease be calculated up front, then can be paid at inception or rolled into the net cap cost. IL (for now) and TX tax the entire sales price of the car, not just the part used during the lease, which greatly increases the payment. Most states tax the payment itself.

I've tried to go into leases with as little money out of pocket as possible - usually, just the first month's payment. You can use lease cash - if available - to cover taxes and fees.

Thank you for the clarification. This is helpful. Is any of the acquisition fee profit for the dealership or does it all go to the finance company? I'm in MA and what I've been seeing is a doc fee of $299 which is now being taxed.

The acquisition fee goes to the finance company. The doc fee of $299 is reasonable - here in Colorado, I've seen fees as high as $699!

Got this lease quote from dealer.....2104 328i with Navigation, Moonroof, Tech, sports, driver assistance package (36 month\10k)
    Actual price: $44,522.00
    Sale price: $40,750.00
    acquistion fee : 925$
    Cash due @signing : 2500 +1198(tax+first payment+fees)
    Monthly : 434 (with tax)
    Residual : 29k

Can someone tell me if this is good?

  • orlando12orlando12 Member Posts: 2

I'm still shopping around for my 328i. I contacted a CA and he told me that the car I want has an MF of .00170. I'm browsing around the dealer site and some of the cars have a manufacturer offer of 3.19 APR and if im not mistaken that comes out to .00133. If I decide to go with the car with the manufacturer offer will the MF drop to .00133? Thanks

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 236,691

On a 2014 model the money factor is .00130... If he is quoting .00170, he is marking it up the maximum.

On a 2015 model, most have a money factor of .00133... but, that has nothing to do with finance APRs, even if they seem to be equivalent. That dealer will probably mark up the .00133 rate, as well.

My salesman said they wouldn't go lower on the selling price but I didn't push.

    Here's the exact breakdown:
    47125 msrp
    42600 sale price
    36/10
    62%
    .00081 w/ 7 msd's
    925 bank fee
    299 doc (+tax)
    125 reg
    456 fmp
    (1825 in fees)
    (3192 7 msd's)
    $5017 (fees/msd's)

I'm thinking the only room left for negotiation is the bank fee and sale price but is that being unreasonable? Keeping in mind this will be a special order. The salesperson claims they're making $300 at these numbers.

Can you guys give me your feedback on this deal.

    2014 335i (tech,premium,M sport & other options)
    MSRP: $55,400
    INVOICE: $51,510
    SELLING PRICE: $49,510
    36 MONTHS 12K MILES/YR
$1,399.34 TOTAL DOWN (first month included)
    $533.34+TAX PER MONTH

    I calculated this as 63% residual / .00151 MF

i know the 2015 models are coming out soon and im wondering if this is a excellent deal.

    Thanks guys!

Yes, the acquisition fee is marked up $200, but that's only going to save you $5-6/mo to have it taken out.

Base MF for the 335i this month is .00130, and the 36/12 residual is 62%. With your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $530.18, just a few dollars shy of what you've been quoted.

Increasing the MF to .00151 changes the pre-tax payment to $547.79.

There is $1250 of option credit available, but I suspect that is being taken into account in the selling price, which is already $2K below invoice.

The delta between the total out of pocket and the payment is $866, so I would assume that the acquisition fee is $795, and therefore not marked up.

The only thing left for you to do is to use MSD to lower the MF and your payment.

Hello. I going to lease my first BMW. I'm going for a 328i x drive. Possibly with navi, back up camera. The price of the car online is about $46,000. I know about the 1500 optional credit. I do get a $1,000 bonus because my son just graduated college. What would an ideal lease be on this car. Especially because the 2015 is coming out. Is it worth getting the 2014 now or wait until the 2015 comes out to get the 2014.

    Thanks guys

The base MF on the 2014 328i xDrive is .00130. Residual depends on the lease term and miles per year.

It's possible that BMW will discount the 2014's when the 2015's start to hit the lot, but there are no guarantees.

There is no 'ideal' lease number. You have to negotiate the best price and make sure that the dealer doesn't try to pull a fast one on you with the MF or other fees.

Does it help to bring a side by side comparison of what the dealer cost is versus what they are charging to bring down the price.

    What's the residual on a 2014 328i x drive for June?

Thanks very much for this information. One follow-up question - Given the option credit (which wasn't applicable in my last couple leases), should I expect the dealer's "best and final" sales price will include this credit being taken into account? Or should I be able to get an under invoice number based on this credit? I'm trying to determine the best way to position myself in the negotiation to get full value out of the option credit. Thanks!

Well.... the two question you've asked aren't in direct opposition to each other.

Yes... the dealer's "best and final" offer probably takes the credit into account.

And... yes, you should be able to get under invoice, considering the credit.

Msrp $44,825(includes metallic paint, cold weather and premium), sales price $38,482. the sales price includes all the fees including acquisition fee of $725. Monthly fee of $465 due at signing, no money down. This is 10k/36month. Is this a good deal?
    Thank you.

Guys wondering if this deal is any good. Seems like they may be boosting the MF? Also not sure if they can drop the price anymore because of the option credit running now (they said it was their best price). It's pretty bare bones, heated seats and moonroof are the only add ons.

    328i xdrive 36 mo/12k.
    MSRP 41775.
    Sell price 37725.
    Salesman said residual is 60%.
Monthly payment with sales taxes (7.5%) 502.82.
No money down on this deal or MSD at this point.

Just talked to him again. Looks like there must be a 925 destination fee not built into the price yet because he said he can do a MF of .0014, but my payment would still be 499.29. Would really appreciate any guidance.

Double check the fee - there is a destination fee of $925 as well as an acquisition fee of $725, which many dealers mark up to $925. Neither can be waived, but don't all the acquisition fee to be marked up.

MF is being marked up as well for extra profit.

Thoughts on my deal? I was able to get the monthly payment down to $455/month.

Which model? If I use the residual for the 328i with the base MF of .00130 and your MSRP and selling price, I get a pre-tax payment of $394.98.

$465/mo seems steep - you should check to see if the dealer is marking up the MF on you.

It is the 328i xdrive. He said he was using the MF of .00130 and a residual of 62%.

Hmm. Using a $44,825 MSRP and a cap cost of $38,482 with the MF and residual as above, I get a pre-tax payment of $383.11.

What state is this in? There are several states that calculate the sales tax differently for leases - TX, IL, GA come to mind.

Then my calculations above are correct. You need to contact the dealer to get a full breakdown of the numbers involved.

Just talked to him. You are correct the MF is higher to make up the big discount.

I wouldn't go with the inflated MF ... see how much they are willing to discount the car with the base MF.

Also, you may also wish to contact a different dealer - see if they will beat dealer #1's offer.
