I live in central Florida, also hot in summer. The factory AC in my 99 Accent GL sedan has been great! It gets so cold at times that I have to adjust the temp control. The AC on our 99 Elantra is even better. Really, the AC on the Accent is excellent for a small car, it really saps the engine though. You can tell the AC is good when I can drink hot coffee in my car when the outside temp is 95+ with 90% humidity!
  • honda719bhonda719b Member Posts: 19
i wonder if the 1.6 engine is going to make a difference while using the ac?
sitting in traffic is the hardest to handle when the sun is beating down and the temp is over 100. most small car ac seem to cut off until the rpm is raised.
a few years ago i had a 1983 datsun sentra that refused to cool when sitting at a light and watched driver's in my rear view mirror wave their fist at me because i hardly could take off when the light turned green.
most small cars seem to handle the heat ok at cruising speeds, but city driving can be hell.
anyway......thanks for your input. i'll have to do a test drive later this year when it reaches 100 degrees.

i was doing some researh about the hyundai accent on the net when i come across the canadian hyundai web site. instead of "L" and "GS" versions, they use "GS" and "GSi" badging. the GSi has some nice standard equipment we can't get in the states...

    GSi standard equipment

    Dual Remote Outside Mirrors
    Colour-Keyed Bumpers
    Remote Fuel Lid Release
    Seat Belt Pre-Tensioner
    Body Side Mouldings
    Power Steering
5sp manual or 4-Speed Automatic Transmission
    Clarion AM/FM CD Stereo Radio
    P185/60R14 Upgrade Tires
    Rear Washer And Wiper
    Manual Sun Roof
    14" Aluminum Alloy Wheels
    Rear Spoiler
    "GSi" Badging
    Fog Lamps
Central Power Door Locks (include hatch)
Sporty Seat Cloth & Door Trim
    White Faced Gauge
Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel & TGS Knob
    Side Sill Moulding
    Sport-Tuned Suspension
    M.S.R.P. $15,045 (canadian)

wonder why the canadians get so much more?
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
I totally agree about the GSi model. I wish they offered that car here, because I would trade up in a heartbeat. They used to offer it here, but it was discontinued for the 2000 model year when the redesigned Accent came out. It's a shame because there are still some people out there who enjoy souped up hatchbacks. The 14" alloy wheels, fog lamps, spoiler, and side sill extensions do so much to make the car look more expensive than it is. The sport suspension is a welcome addition as I feel firmer shocks would go a long way towards making the Accent quite fun to drive. The available sunroof and leather-wrapped steering wheel are very nice touches. But once again, American's disgusting infatuation with big hulking pieces of metal in the form of SUVs ruins the chances of getting sporty small hatchbacks. I'll be so glad when this fad begins to wane.

As for the AC, mine still puts out cool air when stopped at a stoplight. However, I never have the luxury of having to adjust the temperature like Baber; it stays on cold throughout the summer unless it is late at night. It does not cut off when it is idling. The reason the AC puts out much cooler air when at speed is because more air is going across the condenser in the front of the car, thus allowing more heat exchange to take place. The AC does sap quite a bit of power from the 1.5 engine, but the new 1.6 should make the most noticeable improvement there. It's not like people will be pissed that you can't get out of there way; it just initially starts off slowly (the lack of low-end torque is the culprit) but than accelerates with enough power to keep up with traffic. I actually blow away some people at stoplights without even digging into the gas pedal, so it has enough pep for its size. With the AC off, it is actually quite fast. At any rate, definitely test drive the Accent. I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised by the car.

On a side note, has anyone else here sat in the new XG300?? That car is absolutely gorgeous!!! The interior is swimming in luxury. I never really cared for wood on a steering wheel, but Hyundai actually made it look good and REAL! It had a dark grey/black interior that looked very European. It looks far richer than any 25K Accord or Camry. The rear seat has reading lights and the center armrest included a console, wood accents, and a pop-out cupholder. The only thing I did not like was the hideous Buick-like alloy wheels. I was totally impressed by the car and so was my partner. Enough so that I plan on buying one when I graduate from college at the end of this year. But it wont be for me, as I refuse to drive an automatic :)

the sport tuned suspension with the wider 14" tires would add to the "fun factor" when driving the accent...... i guess hyundai doesn't want americans to have fun.

My Wife had bought a 2000 accent it has been repaired three times and a fourth attempt made by Hyundai on the first time the drained and flushed and cleaned the A/C system the second time they replaced the whole system with new one and
germicide was used to flush out the air ducts on the third try the replaced the system again also changed out the dashboard & carpet the service manager also experienced the smell and stated that he was in contact with the factory rep and was told to do the third process then she still had the problem so she filed in December Lemon Law
the manufactory contacted her and set up a final attempt to fix this car the rep from the factory told us at the time there will be no more repairs made to this car this was January 5th 2001 he sit in the car for less than five minutes and made his choice she can not drink any soda's or eat food as she used to she can hardly eat no meat at all now even water has a metal taste to it her clothes smell like the smell of the car all the time if anybody else has the same or close problem please post a message to this board
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
I'm a bit confused. When they said they would not be fixing the car, does that mean they agreed something was majorly wrong and they will be buying back the car? Would appreciate some clarification there. It sounds like your wife has had some kind of allergic reaction to the germicide they used in the vents, because it makes no sense that food would not taste the same to her and all that just because the AC was stinky. As far as my 2000 Accent, I have had no problems whatsoever with smells in the AC and I live in a very humid climate.
  • aldagaldag Member Posts: 81
If you check my earlier posts munchki175, you will note that my only complaint about my 2000 Accent is the disgusting mildew smell from the airconditioner. lngtonge18, you can't fully appreciate just how awful the smell is unless you actually experience it. I think it is some kind of fundamental flaw in the design of the AC which allows this to happen. Perhaps poor drainage from the unit. Why it happens in certain units and not others, I do not know. I was about to rip out the AC unit and put it in the dumpster, but then the cold weather came here in Connecticut and it stopped. Plus the Pine Sol I sprayed into the unit also seemed to help. But this certainly can be a vexing problem. I disinfected the unit three or four times already, during the warm weather. The intensity of the smell can affect the senses for hours after leaving the car.....

I just bought a new 2001 Hyundai Accent 2-door about 2 weeks ago, and so far it has been an awesome car. It was a bargain at $9,000 with A/C, stereo cassette player, and a security system. Not to mention the 10-year/100K mile mechanical warranty and the 6-year/60K mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, which pretty much sold the car. Every time I drive the car I think to myself "This is a Hyundai?" There's tons of interior space, the seats are comfortable, the sound system rocks, the styling is modern inside and out, and the overall quality is surprising for a car that cost only $9,000. With the 5-speed manual transmission the car is fun to drive, and it corners like a sports car. Fuel economy is great compared to my old V8 trucks; I average about 30 miles per gallon even though I shift out at high RPM. I don't think I could have gotten a better car for the money.
  • aldagaldag Member Posts: 81
Don't forget to drive conservatively during the break in. Although the Accent feels like it really wants to GO-GO-GO, nevertheless, during the break in period, all the seals and bearings have to adjust slightly to fit, and this best occurs when driving a bit conservatively. Just changed my oil and filter at 10, 580 mi. on my 2000 Accent and things seem to be going well. One slight problem I note (other that the recurrent AC smell) is that the fresh air / recirculate air selector slide bar automatically slides from the recirculate position to the fresh position all by itself when driving at highway speed. The first time I saw it doing this, I had to laugh, it was like a ghost was moving the control from right to left. I believe the force of the air against the control flap causes this problem.

    Hello Accent owners!
I am considering buying a new 2001 Accent GS. I thought I had a pretty good deal lined up, but then the dealer told me that there was a $195 advertising fee that was on the INVOICE itself, and therefore I had to pay it. Suddenly it wasn't such a good deal. Anyone else had this experience? What did you do? I live in Michigan, and was looking at the GS dressed up with auto and package 3. Anyone else have this configuration? What is a good price for it?

Thanks for any help you can give,

The advertising fee is mostly legit and in most cases there is no way you can get them to take it off. It is what the dealer is required to pay to advertise the car in newspapers, TV adds and the like. I paid $299 so consider your $195 a good deal. The advertising costs vary by region so that explains the $100 difference. What was the price they were offering you? If the price they quoted you was fair, than $195 should not make that big of a deal. We are talking about 4 measly bucks a month over a typical 5 year loan. You will find this fee at just about any dealer, so yours was not trying to screw you. Good luck on your search and let us know if you bought an Accent.

i read an article today that talked about hyundai redesigning the accent. the article didn't go into detail, so i'm not sure if it's an upgrade or just different sheet metal.
it would be nice if they would standardize some of the canadian accent features into the usa accent.
does anyone know what hyundai's plans are for the "new" accent?
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
The Accent was just completely redesigned. If you follow Hyundai's normal way of doing things, expect a slight freshening of the exterior for 2003 and than an all new one for 2005. They have been following this schedule for quite some time now.

    I wonder if anyone had this problem before;

The Parking Brake light comes on and off while driving. I don't usually use the parking brake since I have an automatic. I checked the sensor located beside the Parking brake arm and it looks fine. No corrosion, or anything like that. I wonder if there is other sensor that will act on the parking brake light. Also, there is only 1 electrical cable comming out of the sensor. How does it create a loop with only one cable? (Using the car (ground) as the other one?)

Anyways, thanks in advance for your help.
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
The light does have one other function, to warn you of low brake fluid. If the fluid level is near the low mark, as you drive around, the fluid may be sloshing around just enough to turn the light on and off. Check the fluid, sounds like that could be your problem. Or you may have a defective sensor in the brake fluid reservoir. Hope that helps.

Allrighty then! I'm back from my honeymoon and I turned the '97 over 100K this week. I got it to pass inspection even without changing the airbags. I bought two tires (correct size 175/70R13) for the front and also got the windshield and passenger window replaced. Now the only problems that remain are the obvious body damage, the broken driver's outside door handle, the missing back seat, and the missing passenger door panel.

I have been shopping for a new vehicle with the insurance settlement I will be receiving at some point whenever they get around to it. I am choosing between a new 2000 Protege DX 5-speed in silver for $11,600, a new 2001 Accent GS 5-speed in gray for $9594, and a used 1998 Integra sedan 5-speed with 43K in silver for $10,988. Stephanie's 1998 Integra hatchback automatichas 42K on it now and is doing well.

My troubles with the local Dallas-Fort Worth Hyundai dealers are few. Buz Post is difficult to deal with and he won't trade his Hyundais with other dealers. Allen Samuels and Eckert are small dealers. Freeman is a good dealer, they just don't have a gray GS (they have blue and reD), and Huffines is fine but they only have red and green. I haven't been to any others yet.

I am only interested in the Protege for the 24 months 0% interest financing. $3000 down and $400 a month for 24 months and I own it. Of course it will not be worth much as a 2 year old car with 120K-140K on it, but neither will any other.

Hello everyone I don't suppose you remember me but I am the ZX2er who lost a ZX2 in a major accident about 5 months back. Then in a tribute to my belated car that saved my life. I replaced it with another Ford Escort ZX2.

Now here I am 5 months later and compliments of a cop who lied in court, have a massive insurance premium and with little chance of getting what I had hoped to be a second car anytime soon. In my evaluations if you remember I had seriously considered the Accent. You will also remember I remarked it came in as a close economic runner up to the ZX2.

I am still mournfull of my failed plans especialy when I realized that the New Accent has improved 105hp engine. This was further ilustrated on a recent test drive of one. Granted it is no match in performance for the ZX2, but 105hp is certainly respectible. Damn that would have been perfect for me a 2+2 Econo Sports coupe, and a hard work comfortable econo hatchback zip box. It would have been so perfect to the extent that it is now relegated to my "distant future plans list" in about two to three years (which is about how long it will take my insurance to settle down). Which brings me to my current question.

Does anybody know of any AMATUER webpages covering the Hyundai Accent? They seem to be even rarer than those covering the ZX2.

Hi! My wife drives a silver 99 Accent 4dr automatic, has had it for 21 months. The car has 22,000 kms on it. So far it's been a good vehicle, with only a few minor problems (all of which have been fixed under warranty) ... namely the "check engine" light, caused by a faulty vent valve in fuel system, which also caused the car to be hard to fill with gasoline (the fill nozzle would shut-off repeatedly) and a defective horn. At the next service check I'll get the Dealer to check the brakes, as the pedal is a little mushy and also I've noticed a small rust break-out on the bottom edge of the trunk lid ... a car less than 2 years old shouldn't have any rust! I drive a 2001 black Accent 2dr automatic which is very nice and only a week old. The redesign is beautiful! My only complaint is that the engine seems noisier than in my wife's 99. Otherwise, the Accent(s) are a decent value.
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
Do you notice any difference in power between your 99 and 01 Accents? Just curious if the new 1.6 liter had any noticeable power gains over the 1.5. You would be the perfect person to ask since you own both! Would appreciate any input you could provide.
  • perry40perry40 Member Posts: 94
No doubt, the 01 Accent feels like it has more power than the 99 ... seems to idle much smoother as well. Though, as I stated in my previous post, the 01's engine seems noisier ... particularly when in the first 2 gears ... becomes noticably quieter when overdrive kicks in.

I was looking at scheduled maintenance that I might be closing in on now that I have 12,200 trouble free miles, and I noticed that the book says to replace the interior air filter at 9000 miles. How important do you guys think this replacement is and has anyone done it yet? How much was the filter since you probably have to buy it from the dealer? How hard is it to replace? Would appreciate any insight. Otherwise, I guess I have no maintenance to worry about until the car turns 30,000 miles, which is far away.
Also, the engine finally seems to have broken in fully. It revs much more freely now and the fuel economy seems to have leveled off at a constant 28 mpg in all city driving. The acceleration also has become more pleasing, even with the AC on. I recently got a comment by my partner's boss that my car looks like a mini-Mercedes. He was quite shocked to learn it was a 10K Hyundai. My boss stated that my darkly tinted wondows combined with the black color makes my car look real sporty. It made me beam with pride :) I never dreamed I would get nice comments about my little Hyundai.

Thanks Ingtonge18, It was the Brake Fluid, seems like the French owners manual has more info regarding this that the English one!

This is not hard to do. Takes about 30 minutes total. The glove compartment and glove compartment support bar comes out first, held in with a few screws. Then release the outside air flapper control wire, it crosses in front of the filter door, and must be moved up and out of the way. Now pop open the air filter door. Slide the old filter out and the new filter in. You can spray some room freshner in there if you want. Now reverse the process to reassemble and you are in business!
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
Your welcome! Glad to have helped and that the problem was as simple as it was.
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
Thanks aldag. I think I will wait awhile to replace it since it doesn't serve a major function and will probably cost $20, which is a bit steep to replace every 9k. I will add it to the 30k service roster.

On Wednesday I went and test drove a new automatic 2001 Accent GL. I liked it... The biggest improvement was in the engine performance. The 2000 Accents only real failing in my eyes has been the engine performance, especialy when starting out on steep hills. With that in mind I purposely found the steepest hill I could find. Stopped on the roadside, turned on the AC let it run for a few minutes (the salesman thought I was nuts as we where in the lower 30s at the time), and then purposely gunned the car up the hill. It handled the hill perfectly wiht very smooth acceleration. Granted it wasn't in the same league as my ZX2, but that has 130hp engine. However with two full grown 200+Lbs men in the car it didn't do too badly. About the only thing I could fault the car for was the engine noise which seemed a triffle louder than I remember in the 2000 Accent.

    Hi everybody,
I am about to buy new 2001 Accent (4door). I read somewhere that people had the problem with smell from AC. I live in hot and humid area and would like to know your experience with AC on Accents.
Please reply me as soon as possible because I might buy it today.
    Thanks a lot.

Ps: what would be good deal on 4door 2001 Accent?
  • floridianfloridian Member Posts: 219
gt9198b: I just got a quote on a 2001 Accent GS Hatch Automatic, pkg #3, floor mats & spoiler out the door for $11,094.00 tax & title only NO dealer fees. The MSRP was $12,039.00, not bad. Edmunds TMV price is $11,304.00 so if you can get one up there in Ga. for that go for it. If not the dealer that quoted that price is Bob Dance Dodge, Hyundai in Orlando. They have 400 Hyundais in stock at any given time so I'm sure you could find what you want.

    Floridian, good luck

    Hello fellow Accent owners!
As of about 3:30 today I can truly call you fellow' owners. Hooray! I have been reading this board for the last couple weeks, and I finally took the plunge and bought a 2001 Accent GS just a few hours ago. I must apologize, it is an automatic. I have only driven a stick about 3 times in my life, and the last time I darn near killed myself. I guess I temporarily forgot simply pushing the clutch doesn't actually STOP the car :) I actually considered learning again, it's been a few years, but my wife needs to drive this car too. Maybe in a few more years I can actually get a car of my own ;)

Anyway, it only has about 130 miles so far (remember those days?) so I will comment again after I have had a little longer to evaluate it. Just so you all know, I paid $10,622 for this GS with auto, pack#3, floormats, and mudguards, AFTER rebate and before title/taxes. This price includes a $195 advertising fee for my area, and there were NO other dealer fees. Basically, they sold me the car at invoice, so I can't really ask for better than that.

Anyway, I will be sure to keep you all posted!

I asked this question once before does anybody know of any decent Accent websights? Given the popularity of the car I am finding hard to believe there are not at least one or two good ones...
  • quickshiftquickshift Member Posts: 16
I heard this engine gets the same fuel economy as the 1.5L. It looks like Hyundai is closer in to the technology of Honda.
  • occupant1occupant1 Member Posts: 412
This is the only place I ever get to talk about my fading '97...here in Edmunds...there is an eGroups group for Hyundai Accents but I never get any mail from it except a little spam here and there. I ask questions and get no answers there but here some people are talkative.

I cannot believe Hyundai was STUPID enough to design these brakes so you have to tear down the whole hub assembly to pull the rotor. I can't afford $150-$200 in labor so I'm going to keep swapping out $16 sets of pads every few months because a $600 front-only brake job is ridiculous. Pads are $16 a set and the rotors are only $23 each (Auto Zone) but several mechanics and a Hyundai dealer say I need a 20-ton press to put the rotor back on, assuming I can even get it off without the press's help. I also need to disassemble the wheel bearing/hub/spindle assembly to do that. That's nuts. I could replace the rotors on my 1992 and 1993 Dodge Dynastys in about 20 minutes. They simply slide right off as soon as you remove the caliper and pads. This car, sure I can swing the caliper up out of the way and change the pads in about five minutes, but $600 for one axle's worth of brakes? Crazy! Next time I'm paying attention to the wear indicators. Of course this car has none. Oops! Another bad idea...if you have pads replaced on your Accent...MAKE SURE they have wear indicators because of you groove up your rotor and are afraid of destroying pads every few thousand miles, it'll cost you several hundred dollars to fix your rotors. Me, I'll spend the $16 every few weeks because I can buy 37.5 sets of pads for that same $600 and change the brakes on that right wheel 75 times which is a whole lot better than wasting the money on disposable composite rotors. Oh yeah, and good luck finding real steel rotors for an Accent without spending $100-plus apiece at the dealer. The upside of this is I'll be darned good at changing brake pads in a few months.
  • aldagaldag Member Posts: 81
Why would you need to change the brake pads so often? When my 92 Shadow was totaled last year at 66,000 miles, I still had the original pads with about 30% left to go. Should I be expecting less with my Accent?
  • photog0264photog0264 Member Posts: 314
Occupant, I am inclined to agree with you. Try as I may I haven't found much of anything on the Hyundai Accent in the Cyber world. There isn't that many decent amatuer websights covering my beloved ZX2 either. Those that do exist are mostly the domain of avid enthusists with warranty voiding mods that would have the designers rolling over in their graves. I have begun work on an Accent page that will be attached to my ZX2 pages.

At the moment however I am mostly concerned with redesigning my ZX2 pages moving them as time allows to a new server. Once this project is done I will add the Accent page and I will post a link here. The problem is I don't own an Accent and it is sort of hard to give it the "first hand" feel that my ZX2 pages have.

In my case the Accent was the second choice to my ZX2 and though I do like and admire the Accent. When it comes to which is more fun to drive the ZX2 wins hands down. To fair about it though the ZX2, and the Accent are in quite different categories of cars. The Tiberion is in fact the Hyundai rival to the ZX2.

Any thoughts on what sort of info I should incorporate in the Accent Page? At the moment I have the specs, some photos, a couple of links and what I liked about the car.

On another project I am thinking about trying to establish is an Amatuers Auto WebRing. With the intent of encouraging amatuers and minor car fans to create web pages on their cars. I have a feeling this may end up being a little too expensive for my ridiculously tight wallet. This is to say nothing of the time constraints. Still the idea is there and before I write it off completely I will have to do some research.
  • lngtonge18lngtonge18 Member Posts: 2,228
I would assume that the reason occupant1 is having to change the pads so often is that he has rotors that are grooved and/or warped. When a rotor gets like that, it will wear out pads at an alarming rate. So, no you should not expect that from your Accent. Remember, his Accent has over 100K on the original rotors and they have been damaged from wearing the pads down too low. My question to occupant1 is: Are you installing cheapo organic pads or semi-metallic ones? I had a 93 Mitsu Diamante that ate cheap pads in 3K, but the semi-metallic ones wore less quickly.

Will the U.S. get the 14" wheels --apparently standard-- on the Accent? The U.S. Hyundai Sales Training web site says so in "What's New" (see below for link).

    Here's the main site: http://64.77.18.130/sales/

Here's the exact link to the exact window:

    http://64.77.18.130/sales/1000_99/accent/a_new.htm

(If link appears on more than 1 line, cut and paste onto 1 line.)

    It says . . .

    "P185/60R14 Wheels/Tires & deluxe Wheel covers (GS & GL)"

The pages referenced are (c) Hyundai Motor America and are designed to help sales staff sell the Accent. So they are/were planning on 14".

Will we see it sometime in 2001, and if so when? Or was it delayed in the U.S. market until 2002, or just decontented and we'll not see it (like the Canadian Accent GSi).

i asked the same question about 20 posts back about the 14" wheels and sport tuned suspension that is standard on the canadian accent gsi.....

what really confuses me is the site you posted. it mentions a 1.6L engine with 16 valves available. every hyundai site i've visited attributes only 12 valves to the accent. i wonder if canada gets a better version?

shame on hyundai if this is true.

I have just added a page concerning the Accent on my ZX2 page. I welcome CONSTRUCTIVE comments... My General page covering my car can be found at:

    http://sites.netscape.net/photogsweba/ZX2Page.htm

While the individual page concerning the Accent is located at:

Sorry for the mile long addresses. I am hoping to shorten them down with a my own domain fairly soon.

2 Weeks ago I replaced my old troublesome 94 Excel with a brand new 2001 Accent GS 2dr, automatic ... I thought "now my car troubles are over" ... WRONG!!! For the past 2 days, I left my new car home & have been using my wife's 99 Accent (due to the fact that her car has snow tires & we've been getting lots of snow), but when I went to start the 01 last night, THE DAMN THING WOULDN'T GO!! MUCH ENERGETIC CRANKING, BUT NO START!! The car had a full fuel tank, so I tried some gas line anti-freeze, but still nothing (the battery seemed fine, everything lit up). So, I called Roadside Assistance and had her towed to the dealership ... This should not be happening ... the damn car is brand new, with less than 300 miles on it (exactly 459 km) ... I took a leap of faith when I replaced my old Excel with a new Accent ... I'm beginning to question whether I made the right decision going with another Hyundai ...

1)Posting #343- There is a package due out early summer that dresses up the accent-kind like a sport package, but no other details are available yet. Perhaps it will be in this package. 2)#344-Elantra CT at this point is scheduled for April production, but don't look for it to be at the dealerships until June/July. I would assume it will be a 2002 model, but don't quote me! 3)#345-1.6L 16v is in the AS and AL model,1.5L 12V is in the basic I model

    Honda719b,

Right, the U.S. Market does not get the Canadian Hyundai Accent GSi, sport suspension, sunroof et. al. And the U.S. Hyundai Sales website mentions none of those options, so it's safe to say we won't be getting them.

The sales website does list factoids for Hyundai salespersons in the U.S. to tout to U.S. customers. Improvements are engine, emissions, and 14" wheels. (All for the U.S. specifically.)

And the U.S. Accents do indeed get the larger 1.6-liter engine (except for the base model). This was the main--and AFAIK only-- improvement of the 2001 Accent over the 2000 in the U.S. market.

But as the sales web site does mention the 1.6-liter engine, which we did get, the emissions (which I suppose came with the engine), and the new tire sizes, I thought that perhaps we in the U.S. would see the 14" tires sometime in the 2001 model year. That's my main question-- when or if they will be available. Or whether the sales website is wrong.

Thanks for the replies. Glad to know there's a Accent sport/appearance package on the way this year. That's the first I've heard of it.

Perhaps I spoke too soon re: not seeing any GSi options in the U.S.

in the edmunds review of the accent it says the 1.6L engine has 12 valves. on other web sites they claim it's a 16 valve engine.... does anyone know for sure which is correct?
