thanks all (qbrozen-stickguy-sebring95-steine13) for your posts when we looked for old crv and high prices back in may.

after that husband switched to 4wd subaru and they are also high and also he says bad gaskets-thats another story. sometimes they go cheap with gaskets but we've missed so far

anyway we searched months at cl and ebay and then came across this one now here

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2001-SUBARU-LEGACY-OUTBACK-AWD-5-SPEED-MANUAL-/40- - - - - - - 0529679037?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item5d416de2bd

found some 20 manheim pics online (can someone tel me how to load pics here. please?)

it's the same car now ebaying. dealer didn't clean winshield and rear window showing manheims wax marks and body rulers and stuff showing starcrack and wiperglass gouge!!!!!!!!! some wheel stuff and body rust n dents and stuff and now seller says engines bad but its cheap

husband thinks he can do headgaskets to fix engine problem and then do cheap windshield

vin4S3BH686516601755 probly at pa manheim since dealers in pa

mainheim speedometer pic is 80 miles less than ebays pic so hubby says dealer probly blew the gasket going back home. also might need tires

can you tell us what the auction $$$`was? dont want to overpay.

    thanks again

say you can get this thing in your driveway for $1k.

great. you've bought yourself a bunch of work.
i would be interested in this if i could crawl all over the car beforehand, if i really wanted an outback from that generation, if it were really nice -- aside from the engine work -- *and* if i were retired or otherwise had oodles of time to devote to this.

for any sort of normal person with a job and a life, i don't see the upside here.
plenty of nice cars out there sell for $20 or less and will last 15 years or more. for a person with normal needs and normal credit, that's the way to go.

    cheers -mathias

I am moving across the country and I am trying to decide if it's worth taking my car. It's not clear if I will need a car when I get there. I would rather fly than drive or pay to transport it. I would be looking to sell to a dealer or maybe private party if it's worth it.

    Hey Q-

Wanted to get your take on the BMW I mentioned on CCBA-

    2010 328i xdrive sedan
    Montego blue / black leather
    17k miles
    6MT
    sport pkg/prem pkg/value pkg
    xenon etc.

We know manual sport package cars don't come up too often, but they still seem pretty proud of this car. Any thoughts on what they may have into this one?

well, let's see... as a trade, it is in that $28k zip code. Maybe 29k on a push if it is super nice and wouldn't take much to certify.

Anyway, put it through cert, add the warranty, shine it up, and they might be in it for $32-33k. So $36k really ain't bad. $35k would be better. Again, though, it better be perfect.

For a law school classmate (sure, that was 15 years ago now, but anyway)

    2005 Lexus LX470
    4.7 V8 gas, 4WD, Auto
    69,xxx miles
    pearl white over tan leather
These only come one way, loaded to the gills: nav, backup camera, slider, chrome factory 18s

Beautiful shape, always detailed, Florida truck all its life, good shoes, looks like it could be brand new. No hits, runs, errors, paintwork, nothing.
This was a second car, and she's decided to cut it from the herd because she likes her primary car better, which is a (C221) CL550.

    Located in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The miles are low, and that's why I need help. There aren't any of these out there with miles under 90,000 or more, and those are listed in the mid 20s. She's thinking mid 30s, which I think is high, so what's it worth?

Probably will be a private sale, and for some strange reason it interests me, despite the fact that I've sworn off SUVs.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,935

mid 30s is nuts. I've got one example that went through auction, listed in above average condition, with just 46k miles, and that brought $23,900. An average with 84k hit $19750. So figure somewhere in the middle of those lies this car as a trade.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm guessing a private party sale would be closer to mid 20s on the absolute top end? But somewhere $23ish would be fair for everybody?

    Hello wise people!
Need to be brought back in from the side of the pool. I've always wanted the cayenne but never could afford the price tag, however I have seen a couple 2006 for 1500-1700 grand and suddenly my eyes lite up. I currently have a Mercedes c class 2004 wagon 18-23 mph. Like it for the ability to bring my 2 huskies along. The family car is a 2004 x5 and the cargo space is limited when I bring the dogs along. So would it be foolish to trade in the wagon and buy a 2006
I'm torn as might tell.(x5 is the wife"car)

Looking for some color on this as I'm nearing lease-end:

    Bay area

    2011 Audi A3 2.0T S-tronic

    29k miles

    Premium Plus

    Ibis White on Black

    Open Sky Roof

Had front right fender replaced by factory certified body shop. Not sure if that means it can't be certified. Thanks.
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 16,421
This all depends on the Cayenne & how well it has been cared for since 2006. A customer of mine has an '05 V6 Cayenne with 180,000 miles on it & still runs amazingly well. Be aware that Csyennes are very heavy. They chew through brakes & tires like nobody's business. Porsche parts are expensive (even more so than other German lux brands like MB & BMW).

I'm confused by the units of measure. $1,500.00-$1,700.00? $15,000.00-$17,000.00? Or "1500 to 1700 grand," which would be $1,500,000.00-$1,700,000.00? Are we talking US dollars, Swiss francs, Euros...?

Then, there's the C-class which is stuck in an endless loop at 18 to 23 miles per hour, which is also confusing. If the original poster meant MPG, then it's unlikely a Cayenne will achieve anywhere near the same figures as the C-class.
  • ohenryxohenryx Member Posts: 285
What exactly are you looking for here? "Color"???

The topic of this particular sub-forum is "trade-in values", did you want someone to tell you how much your car is worth as a trade-in? Qbrozen will be along in a bit and tell you how much they are going for at auction, which will give you a good idea of how much the dealer will buy it for.

But you need to be patient, he does this for no recompense, as a public service you might say.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 32,935
well... it wouldn't be bad. Probably better for you. You'd be looking at $25k-26k to buy it from a dealer, so I'd say something more like $23,500 or even 24k.

high'ish miles and its been kissed. Dealer might hit it around $20k, depending on how well that paint matches.

Those must have alot of miles for that price. how many miles on your C-class?

Even at $17k (I'm guessing that's what you mean), it probably has 80k+ miles (if a V6).

Believe me, I understand the desire, BUT, given that you are shopping in that "under $20k" category, you really have to think long and hard about the logic in taking on a vehicle that is so expensive to upkeep and repair that has near 100k miles on it.

I am attempting to trade-in my 2012 Toyota Tundra 4WD Crewmax SR5/TRD off-road package with the 5.7L V8 and 8,100 miles. It is in great shape as I just need a smaller vehicle that will fit in the garage. I truly love the vehicle but rarely haul things as much as I thought I would.

Dealers in the area are offering me anywhere from $29,000-$33,000. I am sticking with the higher number--do you think it is worth that for a trade-in on a similarly priced vehicle?

Crazy thing is: I only paid $33,400 for the vehicle brand new with rebates. My down-payment was deducted off that price. That would be wonderful to effectively drive the car for one year with only $400 of depreciation.
  • steviej1steviej1 Member Posts: 3
Yes, good advice. I may need to save a bit more, which is fine and buy an 07,08 but then it gets into 20 grand.

This is indeed a crazy world. People are paying insane prices for late model used cars and trucks, more so than I would have believed. Regular readers will recall that I traded in a 2011 Silverado crew cab for a new 2013, paying only $2,300 in difference ($2,800 with TT&L).

And those paying close attention might remember that I posted here about a month or so ago asking what would be a fair price for a 2008 Passat Turbo. Well, I just purchased that Passat yesterday, which left me with one too many vehicles. Yeah, yeah, I know, they have a 12 step program, but I think I'll just join CCBA (smile).

So here I am with one too many vehicles, one of them being a 3 month old truck with slightly less than 1,000 miles on it. So tonight I dropped by CarMax, and I now have in my hands an offer to buy for $27,500. Bear in mind that I purchased the truck for an online advertised price of $26,388. Now this did involve a lot of rebates, some of which I had to argue with the dealer to get, but I did get that price.

Late model used car prices are insane. Makes absolutely no sense. Qbrozen posted here a while back that the new Mustang he just bought would bring more at auction than he paid for it, and he is correct.

Dropped off a bunch of vehicles here yesterday and I saw all kinds of iron...it was like a kid in a candy store! Would love to spend some time there just watching what goes on. Am thinking about stopping over there and checking into any employment opportunities that they might have. I was curious though...we put our vehicles into certain numbered rows but how and when can buyers check out these vehicles? I mean how can they see, touch, feel and look under the hoods to tell if they want to purchase for their dealerships or other places of business? There must be procedures going on that I just don't know about. Does anyone really know how these auctions operate?

Working there would be absolutely awesome, a real dream come true! One never knows!!
