Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 ticking

i have a 04 grand cherokee 4.0. i have it serviced every 2500 miles. i just started to hear a ticking noise coming from the front. i thought it might be a valve at first, but it dont tick all the time. i only have 41000 miles on it. any suggestions would be appreciated.
