Could someone explain the keyless entry functioning? I understand you have a unit without a key but how do you unlock the doors? Thanks for the information in advance.

The way it works is when you touch your door handle it unlocks the drivers door. You do have to have the remote in your possession. Or you can push the unlock button on the remote like other cars. The remote does have a key inside of it so the door can be unlock with a key. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you for the prompt response. What I am still confused about is how do you open either the passenger door or one of the back doors? What is the little black button located on the drivers door and also the 5th door on the back for? I am not sure if the little black button is on the passenger front door or not. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

The little black button is also on the front passenger door. It is used to lock the car. Once pushed you have to wait about 3 seconds before you can unlock the doors again. I believe the front passenger door and the 5th door have the sensors for unlocking. Not sure about the rear passenger doors. I do know the rav4 can be programed to either unlock the driver or all doors at once.

I got this info when I did a test drive and ordered a red 09 limited of my own that is suppose to arrive next week.

Here is a link to the Toyota IGuide that has a bunch of info on how to use the various equipment. It doesn't cover the Rav4 specifically, but the SUV category should work.

    Hope this info helps. :)

I know this is a month later, but I just saw this.

If you can live without the remote, the key is easily replaceable at a locksmith, for a fraction of the dealer price.

If you want the remote, it is also available, for substantially more. The keys are definitely available in the aftermarket at locksmiths.

The ignition keys of our RAV4 seem to be falling apart. By that I mean the cover of the push buttons for the remote have worn out and the contacts are now exposed.

I went to my friendly Toyota dealer but he wants $217 to replace each key. So I was wondering if anybody around here has had a similar experience and has been able to solve it in a more economical fashion.

    Thanks.

My key case has self destructed and dealer wants a fortune to replace.

Any ideas? Do I have to reprogram if I get a new case?

    Thanks
