Multiple rattles in an '09 Outback

Hello, all -

I have an '09 Outback, purchased new in April. I've got about 4500 miles on it today.

There are a few rattles, etc., that are irritating me to no end. I've searched through the forum, but thought I'd lay them all out here:

1. The glove box rattles. The dealer has already "adjusted" it once. I'm wondering if there's a way I can align it myself. Any suggestions?

2. There is a rattle in the passenger side door. It's not the speaker, although having the radio on does exacerbate it.

3. One rattle which I think I've identified is in the "faceplate" on the radio / climate controls. It rattles in the upper left corner. They had to pull this off when they installed the satellite radio. Took me awhile to find it - I thought it was something rattling around in the vent.

4. There was an annoying sound coming from the instrument panel whenever I went over the slightest bump. It seems that the guage assembly was not sitting properly in the dash. I unsecrewed and tightened the screw on the top of the thing - that seems to have helped.

Otherwise, it's a great car. But I wonder sometimes why I didn't just keep my '04 Outback.....

    Hello,

I have a rattle in my '09 Subaru Outback that begins when I hit about 55mph. It's coming from the passenger side and probably under the dashboard or maybe lower. It has about 7500 miles on it so it's still under warranty. Anyone know if a dealer will fix it? Great car otherwise.

They will if they can "replicate it" and figure out the source. Sometimes it is a real PITA for you, the owner, though.

Haven't had the time or the inclination to pursue this issue on my 07 Outback.

This one is pretty simple for a dealer to fix... there was even a TSB out about it, which I have referenced here before, but cannot remember the # right off the top of my head. I will look it up in a moment.

Basically, they just clip and tape a couple of connectors, and it is "fixed." I know, hokey, but it worked on two of my Outbacks. ;)

How does one access these TSB's?
  • xwesxxwesx Member Posts: 17,426
Good question! I found them through a site called "theL7.com," but the TSB page is no longer there. You can pay to get them from Subaru directly, but it seems rather asinine to have to pay to find out information about a known problem with your car.

So, if you want the TSBs I listed, I have saved PDFs on my computer. Send me an email and I will attach them to a reply. If you click on my user name, it will bring up my email address.
