Mazda CX-9 Airbags

According to the manual, the front passenger airbags and seat belt pretensioner system are supposed to be activated provided that the passenger weighs at least 66 lbs. I've had passengers weighing 90lbs and even over 100lbs and the deactivation light will be illuminated at least 80% of the time. My original dealer initially told me 66 wasn't really the weight requirement, that it was really closer to 80. But now that I've exceeded that, I'm very concerned about the safety of these passengers.

Anyone have any thoughts/experience with this?

    You are not alone.
The threshold is between 90lb to 120lb. Don't ask how I know....

Is there a way to permanently disable the sensor? 120 lbs is not what is advertised for the safety settings!

    Mike,
I have a 2007 Touring/FWD/Mazda CX-9. After 2 1/2 years of service (aprox 23000 miles), dashboard airbag and passenger seat belt indicators lighted on both times, with and without passengers, and keep on like that. So, I took the car for dealer revision. Guy at the shop said there was a problem with curtain airbags controlling module (nothing bad with seat belts but light kept on). When performing controlling module replacement, curtain bags suddenly blasted off. CUV was stopped, with no engine running nor switch open but battery was connected.

Have you take your CX9 for scanning?
