Has anyone changed the air filter on a 2009 Highlander? Has anyone used a K & N replacement? Is there any mileage or horsepower gain?

K&N makes no claims for mpg improvements with their air filters.

I have not installed a K&N filter in my '08 HL yet, but on my last vehicle ('02 Envoy,) I did notice a small HP increase, but no change to MPG.

I purchased a 2009 Highlander in Aug, and on the way home I stopped and picked up a K&N filter, first thing I did was install it and put the Toy filter in the K&N box! Sure glad I did we just got back from a trip to Georgia (we live in CA) went through two dust storms in Arizona, cleaned it this morning looked like MUD :P coming out of it, installed the Toy filter in for a few days I'm going to clean the K&N again to make sure the dirt is gone!! I don't know if there was mileage or HP increase but I would not drive and car with out a K&N installed!!!!!!! :)
Buy the K&N an keep the engine clean!! ;)

It seems as though there are a few connsections that have to be removed first. Was it difficult and what did you do first? Also, please let me know if you notice any more mpg or horses. Thanks.

K&N "oil" type filters are simply marketing SNAKE OIL...!!

A very high percentage of that Arizona dust was probably ingested by the engine.

Nothing is "free", more inlet airflow, lower inlet restriction, will always mean more dirt into the engine.

Life is a series of compromises.

No "SNAKE OIL" ~~~ K&N OIL ~~~ :shades:
Have use them on many vehicles off/on road and much dust, always check them when clear and never found any dust/ sand in the out flow side!
Think what you must, But I'll keep using them till I quit driving!
P.S. N\K&N on a 1992 Explorer sold it to by the Highlander with 170,000 mi on the Odometer, and compression was equal on all 6 cylinders! :)
