Cadillac SRX Ultra View sunroof exploding

I want to share with you what happened to me recently. I had a crazy, very dangerous episode with his 2008 Cadillac SRX when I was returning home after work about 10 days ago. While traveling around 70 mph on the interstate, my extended sunroof EXPLODED and rained millions of shards of glass on me. Thankfully, my dauther was not in her car seat because it was filled with glass! I drove directly to the Cadillac dealership immediately whereupon the majority of the service and sales departments descended on his car to view the damage.

Cadillac/GM's customer service was not any help. According to them they have not heard of this issue before but with little investigation of this event I have found that many others around the country have suffered the same scare-still GM has refused to acknowledge that the glass may be (is) faulty. There are reports of this issue on the NHSTA website and GM's response was that the glass was broken by a rock or debris thrown. But in mine and other's cases that is not true. It has happened to some people while the car is in their garage. In short: GM will not fix this under warranty.

My advice to anyone looking to buy a SRX or Escalade is not get one with the extended sunroof or not get one at all. If you already have one keep the shade closed.

    not heard of this issue

It's rare but certainly not unusual.

Check with your insurance company - they may replace it under your glass coverage. It could have been a factory defect but it's hard to prove. Even the small ones are expensive to replace.

Believe it or not, GM models with ultraview sunroofs are not the only vehicles with this problem. There has been reports of all kinds of different vehicles, makes and models. There seems to be an increase of people having this phenomenon occuring with their sunroofs, big or small.
