power outlet

The power outlet of my 2010 forester is not working. So I took it to the dealer. They said it is my charger that fries the fuse. Everytime they plug in the charger of my GPS, the fuse blows right a way. But outlet in the glove box works with the same charger. They told me the design of these two power outlet is a little different. The cigar lighter is easy to be damaged. They suggested me to get a charger that's compatible with subaru.

I am curious if anybody is having the similar problem with the power outlet. What charger do you use?

By the way, where is the fuse? Is it hard to replace it by myself?

Odd that it would blow one and not the other.... Has a different unit been tried in that same outlet? Compatible with Subaru - what a joke! These things are standardized, which is the whole point: You don't have to get one "compatible with Subaru" for it to work in a Subaru.

Unless you try a variety of other units with no problem, there is no way to verify whether it is the unit or the outlet that is the problem.

Two other GPS chargers including the original one broke in the outlet and this is the third one I got.

Well, if multiple units work just fine in other outlets in this car (there are three outlets, so try them all out!) and they work fine in other cars, the problem is most likely the outlet. However, I would try cords attached to other devices (cell phone, iPod, inverter, etc) rather than just multiple cords for the same device.
