added better pics. Should be enough so that you can see what needs to be done. The instructions say that the area MAY need to be trimmed, so maybe the newer cars have been trimmed during manufacturing before covering the part with the soft touch material.
I have a 2001 M -4K miles with PHG (stock exhaust). Wife noticed the other day that the exhaust note seemed louder when first moving the car in cold weather (i.e. when 1st backing out a parking space). Seems quieter after warming up. Anyone else notice this? (BTW- car runs perfectly)
The stock collector is a Three stright pipe configueration, as two outer pipes dead end and flow into the center pipe. The draw backs are that the air hits a log jam and is forced to change direction twice before continueing on. The Magna Flow is an "Y" shaped pipe. so the air flow never stops it merges to gether. If you had a special heat tool you may be able to do it I was trying by making a sandwitch plates of metal surrounding the fender materal and heating it. The stuff will burn before it is malible. Ended up cuting it out.
I hear a slight vibration from under the car when I first start out---as the car warms up, it seems to go away---the dealer said there was nothing he could find or do---so I just accept it---I think others have complained of a similar noise---is that what you are hearing ---a vibration sound or is it actually an exhaust rumble?
No more have signed up on the Yahoo invite, but lalarry and one other person that found my post on Yahoo have said they'll be there. Right now it looks like 10 cars and about 18-20 people. Still over 35 invitees haven't responded.
2) 300michael answered this one. A lot better airflow in the magnaflow...or most other high performance collector you might put in. However, Glennbp kept his stock collector and put a Flowmaster on the back and his car is noticably louder than mine with the dynomax in the back.
3) Not real loud. On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being stock and 10 being "camaro SS" I'd say mine is a 4. Glennbp's is about a 6. I have a sound clip around somewhere. If I find it I'll post the link.
4) Ask glennbp. He put a flowmaster in back. The sound is a bit sharper/edgier than my set-up
5) Not sure exactly what you mean. I believe that on 300michael's site there are plans and measurements for exactly where the passenger side cut-out goes to match the existing one. Another way to handle it would be to trace the outline on paper and flip it over for the other side, making sure to measure the same amount from the edge. I cheated. I had the shop do it for me.
6) Not sure about the HP change, but I think 300michael might have information on this. He has a G-tech and has done the hugo duals with the magnaflow collector and a Rhino muffler (I believe)
I don't visit the Yahoo board very often. Just dropped in over there, & I think it will be a longer time before I go back, for several reasons, one of which is that they need a Pat!
Glenn. Thanks. I had a great time. The Hemi C is just as beautiful as everyone says. Drop dead gorgeous. However, the star of the show for me was the BMW Z8. I thought Glenn would have to drag me out of there. There were plenty of exotic cars (Lamborghini's, Astin Martin's, etc.) plus plenty of strange concepts (topped by the one presented by Lexus). The Hemi C was there, as were some heavily modified PT cruisers and a Startech M (DC did a good job). Oh, the Super8 was there too! Just as bizarre in person. There was even a flying Dodge pickup truck. I'm sure Glenn will chime in too, and also post some pictures. I'll have some up in the next couple of days.
Thanks Mike-It was great! I have to agree that DC did a great job and definitely had the nicest set up of all the domestics. The Hemi C is just stunning! I do hope they produce it and hold the price at what us working types can afford. The Startech 300M was enlightening. It had over $8000.00 in mods, but was still in good taste. Front and rear spoilers with side ground effects were pretty cool. I also liked the large split oval exhaust ends. Dodge also had the Viper "S" (unbelievable! no way it's street legal) and a Kenne Bell modified and supercharged Ram truck with 24" chrome wheels! Absolutely awesome! The BMW Z8 though was the hit of the show for me too. For a production auto, it was just drop dead gorgeous with all the specs to match. Anyway, after wiping all the drool away it's back to reality. I'll try and get some pics posted in a day or two.
My 2001 M has a passenger side window that goes up & down at about half the speed of the other 3 windows. Is this the regulator problem that I have read about here?
We have that too sometimes, it's weird. The first few times you raise and lower the front passenger window, it's sort of slow compared to the others. To check, I held down the driver and passenger window switches at the same time and after the driver's had gone down fully, the passenger's was still dragging itself down. It seems to pick up momentum after repeated use though.
Hey I got that pass front window slow problem too. I think it was since I had all the motors replaced under TSB when I complained about the sticking weatherstripping awhile back. I don't use it much, so it doesn't bother me enough to go complain, but I don't like it.
It could be bad/semi short connection. cutting the current flow to the motor. The mechenism could be binding up causing the motor to work harder. I would have it changed out since it is still under warranty.
While your exhaust (dual) might be slightly different figure close to 16HP increase. Changing the air filter will help too. About two more with the cone filter. If you do the air filter first you will get a bigger increase with it, but smaller with the exhaust. The bonus is the extra MPG you get too figure about 4-5 mpg increase. If you are heavy on the gas, the bad news is it will suck gas faster too. Should take .3 off your 0-60 times.
It is a vibratory noise, but to me it sounds like exhaust in origin. Not 'metallic', but rumbling like exhaust noise. It almost reminds me of a small exhaust leak, but it goes away after the engine warms up to operating temp. Maybe it is "normal" for the 300M, but I don't remeber hearing this type of thing from any newer car.
Not thumbnailed until I sign up for another service, but at least I changed the names to give you an idea of what they are. Nothing as exotic as the MB concept posted from Chicago, but nice cars all around.
I've noticed that mine sounds considerably different when it is cold. I noticed with the stock exhaust and with the Borla. It makes sense, it is much richer - stinks pretty good when it's really cold - and the idle is higher. Once it warms up and the idle settles down, it is much quieter. I can't say the sound is objectionable, just different.
On the noise subject, any experiences with the Borla add-on to stop the 2K rpm buzz? I saw some posts a few thousand back, but am too lazy to look. I don't dislike it, but it is intrusive at, say, 40 mph suburban driving.
Have you checked the heatshields around the Cats, and the (bend infront of) gas tank? Check when cold:) Check clamps on cats, too. When things get hot they swell up.
Anyone try this product for glass cleaning? I'm seeing it advertised more and more lately and would like to believe it works as well as they claim. Any other recommendations out there?
Hi, I'm a newbie. Question, a friend mentioned to me that he thought there is a product that is a plastic film which you cut to the shape of your headlights to protect them from roadsand. Has anybody seen or used this product?
Great pictures from the show, I guess after being one of the 3 winners in the Cal lottery you can afford to buy all the cars!!!! You might think that they would throw in the destination fee for that price, and what gives with those pedal covers for $200.00? I did like that burlwood shifter in the CTS. The Hemi was beautiful but I am not much of a fan of a convertible, especially here in Canada, I'll stick with my sunroof, unless they come up with a retractible roof that came with 50's and some 60 cars. The BMW was also good looking, but cost is a factor plus I understand service can be a pain and expensive on BMW's, but I guess if I have to ask then I can't afford it.
Has anyone come up with a burlwood shifter that would work on an M? and at a reasonable price?
These places offer pre-cut kits for your exact car. I have only looked into this and have not used these products. I was considering them when I found out that my LHS projector headlight housings cost about $500 a side.
You wont see the new LX in Sept 03 . We build out the 03 car sometime in Aug/Sept 2003 ,then they retool the plant for 8-10 weeks , then we start building pilot cars at a very slow rate and sometime in Jan 2004 we start to build customer cars. So spring 2004 you will start seeing them.
Greetings-Just scanned quickly through all the hundreds of posts I missed since departing last Wednesday. I took my wife and two children to SLC last Wednesday and returned last night. Here are some of my observations on the experience. 1. Security-over 4,000 Federal officers were brought in from every part of the country. The one's that were visible included Border Patrol. I met one Federal officer at Park City on his day off. He was from San Francisco, there for seven weeks on TDY. All planes arriving and leaving SLC had the special 30 minute "stay in your seat" rule. Our huge pile of luggage, backpacks, and the palms of our hands were scanned for explosive residue. Everyone entering a venue walked through a magnatometer and was frisked and scanned with the hand-held detectors. I was pulled aside at D/FW airport for a random pat-down by an attractive young lady. She was very polite and asked permission everytime she touched me. (like I would say "No"!)LOL No photographs of any security proceedings were allowed. Army troops handled a lot of the work. There was a limit on the size of bags carried into an event (although the outside events were not enforcing the rule on day-packs, Camelbacks, etc.) Fighter jets were on constant patrol.
2. Visitors-There seemed to be almost as many Canadians as every other country combined. It was nice to see them let their hair down. They had a special store for the official paraphenalia.(sp)
3. Locals-Very friendly and helpful. We got around on the local transit buses and the TRAX light rail (some of the cars were leased from Dallas' DART). Buses were brought in from every where. Taxis were used three times, and fares were very reasonable.
4. Ticket availability-There was a huge business going on in tickets for any event. A center was set up with inside booths for exchanging and selling tickets. Out on the sidewalk were a small army of "scalpers" looking to buy tickets.
5. Pin trading-In the same building for tickets. The Southern Baptist Convention had hundreds of evangelists in town and were giving away a beautiful pin. These were later seen for sale for $5 in some booths. It was a great trading pin! My 11 year old son had a blast trading pins at that building. We also had some "giveaway" pins for nice people.
6. Best event-The best we had tickets for was the Russia-Belarus hockey game. We had third-row seats just to the side of the goal. Very exciting action.
7. "Worst" event-Ice Dancing Compulsories. What a whip! Listening to the same song over and over. And the judging-well, can you say "politics"?
8. Best memory-Spending Saturday skiing with my son at The Canyons in Park City. They have greatly expanded and upgraded this resort. The weather was absolutely perfect! And no lift lines. I only crashed once, just to prove I could still ski slightly out of control.
9. Medal presentation-Saw Cheryl Crow perform Friday night.
10. Judging scandal-Hey, mikeyjohn. What goes around, comes around, Eh? Very happy for Canada.
Your pictures were great! The Chicago Auto Show was a big disapointment, from a Dc point of view, No Pacifica, it was in Canada, the only concepts were from Jeep. The Crossfire looks better in person. The Mercedes concept you asked about is called the Carving. Try to figure out how they came up with that one? The Pontiac's Grand prix concept and Bonneville SX? were boasting of 280 and 275 HP with superchargers. Those were the ones posted by Beach.
Glad you had a great time, and thanks for the thanks in regards to the Canadians, they deserved it, but I don't want to get thrown off this site by making comments to one other post that was on here. It is politics at it's worst, and the scuttle butt is that figure skating could be thrown out of the Olympics and that would be a shame. I'm a little concerned about our men's hockey team, I think we should let our girl's take over. Did you buy any of the Roots clothing at that store? I guess it is quite popular. Our national oil company Petro-Canada is selling Roots stuff at a decent price when you fill-up ($9.95) but am not sure what they have as I don't use their establishments. I think that security is maybe one step above what it was in Atlanta. I was suppose to be in Salt Lake on the security team but they cancelled all International law enforcement about 6 months before Sept. 1, and went strickly US. I was really looking forward to it. Glad you didn't have to use the John on the way there, or if you did we didn't hear about it.
The pin trading is quite somehing isn't it? I was lucky enough to talk to Jamie Lee Curtis in Atlanta who was an avid pin trader. Some people go nuts.
I finally got rid of the vibration that plagued my 2000 300M since new.. The front tires were bad and no one took the time to really look at the problem since the car was new until the latest dealer showed me the problem (tire wobble). I had Michelin MXV4 Plus installed and an allignment and the car rides like new. They seem quieter and ride smoother. I also got a new power seat assembly now my seats don't rock. I now a happy 300M owner.
I am having a bit of trouble finding staggered dual exhaust tips. I did see a set on one car here I think it was sdmike2 (ritchie family) "BIG RED". If anyone has part #'s let me know because I have everything else set up to be installed just can not find the chrome tips.
Those were custom made. They'll cost you $100 per side from the shop that did my exhaust. Email me at mritchi1@san.rr.com for information if you want to order some.
I've been using Invisible Glass for a few months, and it's excellent. Best glass cleaner I've ever used, by far - no streaks. I started with the trial kit (3 cans and 3 wiping cloths), and just ordered/received a full case. The cloths are great too, but you don't get them with the case order. You can buy glass cleaning cloths that are about the same in the Target auto products section. Pep Boys has Invisible Glass for $4/can. By the case from Stoner its about $2.75/can.
The 9006 bulb will not fit in the 300M without some fairly significant modifications to the headlight assembly. It's not impossible, but probably not worth it. I would rather transplant a new bulb into an OEM 9006XS socket, if possible.
I bought a can of Invisible Glass at a local Pep Boys and it works really well. I don't use cloths - a newspaper sheet does a very good job.
If there is a tie in long program, the winner should be decided based on the results of the short program where the Russian couple won hands down (while the Canadians fell).
Also I have been reading that the French judge said that she had been influenced to give higher marks to the Canadian couple since 2000.
So you had you whole power seat assembly replaced to get rid of the movement? I simply replaced those two bolts like a month ago and still no seat movement. Sounds like the dealer overkilled it.
Was installing my bra for a trip tomorrow after going thru a no-touch car wash and found the hood insulator bottom edge driver side near the washer motor wet again. As I have noticed no wetness since the 5* worked on the washer hoses, I figured if it stayed dry after hitting the spray button, I was good to go. No such luck, the car wash soaked the area and a light went on in my head. Maybe the problem wasn't the washer hoses, just bad seals along the hood. Looking closer at it I saw the lasst foot of the area had no seal at all. I figured that maybet the dealer had messed it up and a piece of sealer didn't get put back. Off to the 5* and the service guy didn't think a piece of seal should be there. We then looked at a 2001 that he still had on the lot and sure enuf, the seal stops about 8-10" from the edge of the hood, thus allowing water or whatever to splash up under the hood and get the insulator. I figured I could just get another strip of the seal and cut it to size. They wanted $25 for it. A got some hose at Lowes ($1) and cut it and taped it in there to see if that will do a better job at keeping the water out of there. No new insulator installation til I am sure. Check your hood insulators to see if you have the staining and prevent the rot before it sets in.
On the Super8, I finally remembered where I saw that design. Wasn't that the the "Family Queen Truckster" from Chevy Chase's Vacation movie. Ugly. Now if DC can only make a pea green color.
While this is a 300M forum, I was referred here by someone in the LHS forum. I am getting ready to do battle with my local dealership in regards to the driver side seat moving forward. I have had the seat 'fixed' 3 times now on my 2000 LHS and at the 30K service (2 weeks ago) they are telling me that this is normal movement. The service person at my five star (I believe my exact quote to the service manager was "I have yet to see 3 star service from you") indicated that there was a communication from Chrysler saying that this seat movement was "normal". When I showed up and asked to see this communication, I was shown a TSB for seat movement that indicated that "screw blocks" were to be installed to fix the problem. They were out of stock for this 30 min fix and I asked to be called when they were in. Lo and behold that when I called last week to check on the parts arrival, the parts department told me there were no such screw blocks for the LHS!!! Currently I am awaiting a call back from the district manager to confirm an appt for the 26th of Feb to meet with him.
Do any of you know about any TSB, or other information that I can better arm myself with going in?
I have had so much smoke blown at me from this dealership regarding more than this issue, that I'm begining to think I need a fog horn everytime I go there.
marknel: the seat 'movement' has an actual TSB....I think sdmike2 above this message pasted a couple of links. I-as well a several others had this 'normal' movement fixed properly, so don't let the -5* dealer bs you. I have a 2000 300m named eMily that had this and a couple of other bizarre 'problems' such as a light show where all the dash lights and other things went on and off....up and down, and the drivers seat moved all the way forward towards the dashboard...BEWARE the dreaded Body Control Module problem....... jona57: My 2000 Bright Silver 300m also sounds 'throaty' early in the morning...has a nice sort of growl until she warms up......goes away after about 10 minutes or so of driving.......hope this helps out. Next time I'll record the sound vis my super-duper spy pocket recorder!....
I ordered part number 05080982AA and fixed it myself. You need two of these bolts for each seat. They were $5.70 each. I've only installed the drivers side and it's a real quick fix. After 1 month or more, still no movement.
Get you a T50 torx bit for a 3/8" rachet, in fact get you a small set of Torx rachet bits and a Torx screwdrive set, they come in very handy when working on a 300M.

I have a few more questions before I take the plunge.
Anyone have any model number for mod products?
What is the difference in the stock exhast collector and the magnaflow collector?
How loud is the DynoMax Super Turbo #17739, sdmike
Anyone know what model of Flowmaster muffler to use for a mellow rumble?
Is there a way to roll the the left bumper cover cut out to match the stock (right side)?
How many HP will the dual's add?
The Magna Flow is an "Y" shaped pipe. so the air flow never stops it merges to gether.
If you had a special heat tool you may be able to do it I was trying by making a sandwitch plates of metal surrounding the fender materal and heating it. The stuff will burn before it is malible. Ended up cuting it out.

Anyone think greasing it up would help?
The mechenism could be binding up causing the motor to work harder.
I would have it changed out since it is still under warranty.

That Cavalier is nasty!
So, if the Viper backs up, does it double as a snow blower?
worth a look for those who didn't see it!
it will also appear in the movie 'Minority Report'
