01 Lincoln Ls V8. Heater problem.

luckycaliluckycali Member Posts: 17
Recently I notice that my car heater wasn't working right. I have search the web for info on what could be the problem. The issue I'm having is when the car is in idle there's no heat but if I drive it and floor it i get heat but once I let go the accelerator there's no heat. I did change the thermostat and that did not helped the car would start to overheat needle would go pass the half mark on the temp gauge. I read on the web about the DCCV might be clogged up so I took it apart and clean it spray WD40 on it so it wouldnt stick and still no heat. I just change out the heater core and still no heat I notice that the car was staring to over heat with the heater core change out. Any tips would be helpful before I give up and take it to the dealer.

Sounds like the water pump. It's not circulating the coolant at idle. Revving the engine shouldn't affect the DCCV and you've already changed the thermostat and heater core. Did you use the right thermostat and did you bleed the system per the LS specific procedure (google it).

I doubt it is the water pump because before I change out the heater core the needle on the temp gauge was at normal temp. The thermostat I bought for it was 185'F according to Auto Zone. But I took the new one out and put the old one back in because the engine would heat up this was done before the heater core was change out. Also I did bleed to coolant system how the repair manual says to do it.

Check the heater hoses under the hood when you're not getting heat to see if they're hot. That would tell you if it's a coolant problem or a climate control problem. Did you replace the heater hoses/radiator hoses? Maybe one is collapsed.

I check the hoses that are going in to the heater core and they are hot. I get a bit of heat but not enough to what my control unit is set at 90'F. I rebleed it this morning to double check. I got a bit of heat but I have to have my foot on the gas pedal to get some kind of heat if I let go the gas pedal the heat is gone.
