96 chevy cavalier wont move

I have a 96 cavalier 5 speed tranny, car has stopped moving. If you lift the vehicle off the ground the wheels spin but on the ground car wont move..happened suddenly on my way home no warning..clutch is still gripping bc can feel the rpms go up and the wheels spin unless on the ground..im thinking tranny probs any idea please msg me

    I don't know if this will help, but I have a 2002 z24 and the problem I had was with the roll pin connecting the shift leaver to the manual stem shaft of the transaxel. A roll pin cost about $3.95 @ a Chevy dealership, you can install the pin yourself,or you can have the dealership do it at around $800 - $1,200.
