I brought a used 95 Passat GLX two days ago. This car is nice except the vibration. I did not know the reason. Does any one have the same problem?

Vibration under what conditions? You need to be a lot more specific.

Do you mean the engine vibrates at idle, or that the steering wheel vibrates at highway speed, or that you feel a vibration under your seat but not in the steering wheel, or an overall buzz in the entire car under certain conditions?

We can't tell you anything with such a sparse description....details, please!

The VR6 is known for being a little "rough" around the edges when first started. I thought that gave my VR6 Jetta character....

It smooths out when revved though. Is that the vibration you are concerned about? At cold start?

    Hey Eeguk,

I had a 1995 Passat GLX up until about two years ago. I bought it new and drove it almost 90k miles in the time I had it.

I experienced two different types of non-engine vibration during my four years.

    1) The Passat has marginal rear wheel bearings which WILL gradually become rough, if ignored long enough they can cause more of a vibration sound than the actual feeling of vibration. Said sound is more than just a little annoying, and fairly inexpensive to fix.

    2) Virtually all of my driving was in and around NYC, during the winter of 1996 we had lots of snow, mud and pot holes. After one sustained melt, a fair amount of mud built up inside of the wheels causing LOTS of vibration. A quick trip to one of those do it yourself 50 cent car washes fixed most of the problem. The remaining fix required a new BBS wheel, apparently I had hit a pot hole hard enough to bend it!

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
    Shipo

    P.S.

If your vibration is experienced only during braking, you probably have a "Hot Spot" on one or more of your disk brake rotors. In which case, the best fix is to replace the rotors.

I have a new 2001.5 GLX with Tip. Is it common to be a little sluggish accelerating from a complete stop or from slower speeds? My previous car was a manual so I may simply be adjusting but it seems a little rough accelerating through the lower gears. Should I be concerned?

Also, at what RPM should the Tip automatically shift up? I can get it to shift down on its own but not up.

    I'd appreciate any insights.
