Engine rust in an 08 TL
Several years ago (when my 08 TL was under warranty) I would hear a squeaking noise from the passenger side in time with the engine when I started up the car cold.
It took five trips to the dealer to fix the problem. They found pits and rust on the crankshaft pulley and later rust on the power steering pump. The belt was replaced due to rust contamination.
A couple of weeks ago, with the TL now out of warranty but with only 32K miles on the car, I heard the sound again when the engine was "cold". However, this last week in this heat (even when starting the car at 6 in the morning) I don't hear it anymore.
When I called the dealer for advice they just said to bring it in, although their service bays are not air-conditioned so the problem might not be replicated. They wouldn't say whether they'd pay for any further repair.
Anyone had a similar experience?
