E-Class Repair Costs

I am looking at possibly buying an 1997 E-320, but am wary of the repair costs. I plan on having it thoroughly looked at by a mechanic, but if things do come up (which they will) what can I expect from the repair costs? Will they be fairly comparable to an American made car? Other than the rear window regulators are there any common problems with this year/model?
