there is a winding sound in transmission , dealer is aware of problem , they are trying to find a solution , also when car starts up in morning , very rough sound in engine until oil pumps into valves , if others are having this problem , start complaining and make dealer aware that we want these problems fixed, don't let them give you song and dance.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Jetta, whining sound (35-45 mph) and also rough sound during warm up.

I am the unfortunate owner of a 2000 VW GLX VR6 automatic. This silver bombshell is currently in the shop for its fourth transmission, a dysfunctional CD magazine, and a faulty door handle. It has a mear 15,000 miles. Within my first month of ownership, I had to replace the gas tank. Within of a few months of that I had the climatronic/ac system replaced. I tried to pretend not to hear the intense humming the car made at 40mphs but decided to get it checked out. And now here I am, on transmission #4. VW knows that these transmissions are problematic. The car was not even returned to me after they installed transmission #2 because it made more noise than transmission #1. Anyone else understand my transmission agony????

Mine has a slight whirring sound around 35. Nothing WRONG with the car though. Drive any car, they all make noise. Now, if the tranny was slipping or not shifting correctly, then I could see taking it in. But, taking it in is anal just for the little whirring noise. If you did not hear that, you would hear wind noise from the mirrors, or tire noise. I would never get a new tranny on a car. Once they dig in that deep, the car is never the same. A robot installs the tranny first - no way some VW dealer mechanic can do it within spec.

    My opinion.

my trannsmission on 2000vr6 is whinny too. dealer said it was ring and pinnion with no fix as of yet. the noise shouldn't be there but it's not a good idea to let dealer work on it. also i have a rough idle at 1000-1100 rpm. i hate the trans noise that's all I can hear!! seats do not heat up until # 4 0r 5 my vr also is noisy when starting in the morning not all the time but sometimes
