Sunroof stuck open - Buick Regal 2003
We have a 2003 Buick Regal GS, and today (May 2014) when we opened the sunroof, the inner shade went all the way back into the roof cavity with the glass and we could not get the roof to close again. We tried everything, and went everywhere and everyone tried to tell us it was the motor. But we knew it wasn't the motor because we could hear the motor trying to push the glass out, and we could see that the shade was stuck inside. The dealer tried to tell us that it was going to cost us $2K to replace the motor and fix it! Good thing we took it to another shop and they fixed it for FREE. All it took was one person to reach in under the headliner (the carpeting on the inner roof) and pull really hard on the sunroof and shade, while another person pushed the button to close the sunroof forward. After only 2 minutes, they got it closed and it works again just fine. No motor issues. We just have to be careful that it doesn't pull the shade all the way back with it when we open it anymore.
I hope this is helpful to someone, because we couldn't find anything related to this today when we tried to find it.
Good Luck!

Glad to hear you dodged a bullet there! There must be some sort of stop in the channel to prevent this from happening, that might not be in place anymore, so you'd best keep an eye on this.
