Fuel Economy Update for May - 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 S Long-Term Road Test
Our 2014 Mazda 3 posted respectable fuel economy for the month of May, 2014. But we're still below the EPA's combined estimate.

I have owned my 2014 mazda 3 i touring for three months. I am averaging 40.5 MPG overall and I haven't reset the overall MPG computer. You guys must be really aggressive with your driving. I am not an aggressive driver by not accelerating quickly and stay around 60-5 mph on the freeway, but even if I take a trip thats around 65-72 mph, I still average 42 mpg for that trip.
We have around 12k miles on our 2014 Mazda 3 S Grand Touring. We are seeing 29 MPG weekly on the trip computer, resetting it at each fuel stop. The car is primarily driven in town by my wife, with the occasional highway trip into L.A. I did not opt for the optional tech package that includes the i-ELOOP regenerative braking and grille shutters. I think the MPG has been great for a car that is driven in a spirited manner. My wife is used to driving a Camaro SS, so she is not one to be shy with the accelerator pedal. I think we are getting better MPG than we would see with a 4-cylinder turbo motor in the competing cars in this segment, since those seem to take a bigger MPG hit when driven aggressively.
We are still very pleased with this purchase. Alloakland1, you have the 2.0 motor in your 3i Touring, so I would expect better mileage than the S with the 2.5.
tankrust, the mpg difference between the 2.0 and 2.5 is only 1 mpg
We've had our 2014 Mazda 3s GT sedan (no tech package) for about 6 weeks. We've driven about 750 miles -- 500 in the city and 250 on the highway. We're not aggressive drivers. But our overall mpg remains at about 21.5 on the readout. On the few occasions when we've taken a 30- or 40- mile highway jaunt, the number has ticked up to 22 or so -- but, over the next few days of city driving, it ticks right back down to 21.5. Granted, we've put relatively few miles on the car. But, surely, a full 10 mpg below the combined EPA rating is well below the margin of error.
