We brought our 2014 Kia Cadenza to the dealer for its first normally scheduled service, and to fix an ongoing problem with its fuel tank neck.

Gee, I don't recall hearing about these problems before this post; what gives?
And maybe the limp mode is related to your fuel pump/filler neck issue.
Those screws look like they came from Lowe's and will rust by next week. They can't possibly be the right fasteners.
Well, they did say that the limp mode occurred while the car was with a member of the video team. That person probably doesn't write blog posts. As for the rest, I really don't know why we haven't heard from them.
I completely agree with you here. In fact, picture #228 of the photo gallery on the 2014 Cadenza Edmunds page shows that you are correct, even if it is hard to see:

Click on "View All Photos", which is a different gallery than those first pictures.
Oddly enough, when clicking to view all photos, the number of pictures actually goes down from 249 to 231.
They look like what are on my car, though my car has a flat washer against the body and a split lock washer on top of that and on this picture, it doesn't look like the washers are there.
Looks like they put in some sheet metal screws instead of bolts, so they could avoid removing parts to reach in from behind?
Cheap workaround if thats what they did, indeed.
A couple of those screws look seriously stripped.
