A friend of mine who works at a VW dealership says the oil pan on new VW's are made of hard plastic with no protective cover, for weight saving reasons. Good luck not missing any metal debris on the freeway.

That is very strange. My brother's Jetta TDI is nothing like that. It just has 600 colorful warnings about accidentally putting gas in it.

This is kinda disturbing. Not really worried about debris hitting it but more about how long the treads in the drain will hold up. Years of removing and replacing the drain plug with plastic threads...oil leak is bound to happen. Any other car makers use plastic oil pans?

My wife's 2013 Hyundai Sonata has the same problem during refueling at gas stations. I have to hold the pump to refuel. Very annoying.
