I was pacing an X2 on interstate. It was from Connecticut. The oddest
thing I noticed is there is a BMW circle on the C-pillar. It looks so out-
of-place there. I think I recall some cars of earlier decades having logos
there, but this circle just is jarring to my visual of the BMW.

I recall Impalas having a running Impala image there. Weren't there
other cars who put logos on the C-pillar?

The roundel on the C pillar is a stylistic reference to the E9 coupes of the late '60s and early '70s, which had a similar emblem placement:

On shoulder replacement, if you live in a smallish town, it should be apparent who is the best in your area. It may behoove you to go to another town if there are no good reviews. Going to someone with an upper extremity fellowship is usually a good idea. Ask your primary care provider who they would g. o to if they needed a shoulder replacement.

In terms of anesthesia, always agree to the block for post op pain management

We found a good one, a specialist within the ortho group of a large Cincinnati area group.
My wife had gone to one of the Dayton area docs over a year ago. He was useless. Knee,
hip replacements? Great docs here. Shoulder has been a problem; they leave.

The Cincinnati group has encroached on Dayton area because of paucity of good group practices here.

Doc and his fellow want to do a reverse replacement. Says for wife age and needs, it's an easier
recovery and very satisfactory fix with the ball on the shoulder and the cup on the humerus.

    I wonder
My brother-in-law had the reverse shoulder replacement about a year ago. He said the recovery wasn't bad. He still rides his motorcycle and does almost everything he used to do. He just does it more cautiously.

    Maybe it's just me but I like the way they reshaped the X2 to look sleeker, and I think the emblem on the rear quarter pillar (is that what that area is called?) is a nice classy touch;

I’ve always heard that normally the rear-quarter panel ends at the point of the bottom of the window line. Once above that it’s the C-Pillar.

    jmonroe

Depends on doors/windows. A pillar is up front, then work your way back. Not every car has a C pillar. While some have D pillars.

EDIT: wait… or is it not every car has B pillars? Hmmmm

The question becomes “if you have no B pillar, is the C pillar really the B pillar”?

Boy, we get into some deep philosophical questions on this board. :o

All cars are four wheeled isolation chambers.

If anyone doesn't believe that last statement, check many of the vehicles sitting in line at Chick Fil A with the operators isolated from the world,

from the fact they're sitting on a crosswalk with a handicapped person for whom it's painful to stand due to a bad lower back waiting for them to move their Odyssey off the crosswalk,

from the fact that the car ahead of them moved forward 80 feet,

from the fact that the order taker is next to their vehicle waiting for her to roll down the window, usw..

They are all looking down at their cell phone oblivious to the world.

We've talked replacements for dishwashers, washers and dryers, disposals, refrigerators, hot water heaters.

How about shoulder replacements. Is there any knowledge here to share about shoulders?

There is an ad in the Enquirer today from a local hospital, about a new shoulder replacement technique. I'll see if I can find it.

In the case of cars, “pillars” refer to roof pillars, and they’re lettered front to back. A-Pillars straddle the windshield, B-Pillars are in the middle of the passenger compartment (just behind the front doors) and C-Pillars are those at the rear of the passenger compartment.

Some might also refer to them as front, center and rear pillars, but that can get a bit confusing when you add station wagons and SUVs into the mix, as “rear pillar” becomes a bit ambiguous. With roofs that run all the way to the back of the vehicle, the rearmost pillars on station wagons and SUVs are referred to as D-Pillars. On specialty vehicles that have more than one B-Pillar — such as limousines — they’re labeled B1, B2 and so on.

thought of you yesterday Driver. was at BJs looking in the electronics department and they had a wireless backup camera set-up for $139. Looked to be a license plate frame with the camera built in (not quite sure where that got power from), with a small screen unit (looked kinda like an old Garmin) that suctioned cupped (I think)to the dash. But you might be offended by it, since that part had a wire with a 12v (cigarette lighter) plug. Still, pretty unobtrusive if you wanted one bad enough.

wireless meant of course no wires from the camera to the display. but they still need power.

Edit: I found the unit. Turns out the camera part is solar powered (so battery operated). Only the display part needs to plug in

It was an act passed under Regan. Since I started at the post office before mid-1984, December of 1980, I am a Civil Service retiree. I get a pension through them with a "cola" which changes every year like the s s checks do. But, due to what was passed in mid 1984, I only get a small fraction of my s s check. I've worked over 40 quarters in my work life, am still working part time, and only get a fraction of what I should be getting basically. I never see the check now as it goes to pay my Medicare payment. For some reason, social security has screwed up my payment amount since I started getting it at age 64 in 2019. As of the last letter from them, I'm supposed to get $127.20/month now but since my Medicare payment is $144/month, I get nothing. And since they owed me money for all those months, I've had to pay nothing for all of 2021 to make up their error.
Whatever, it seems unfair since I paid in all my quarters that I shouldn't get my full s s payment but that's life I guess...it ain't always fair! Bothered me at first but since there's nothing I can do about it, had to just let it go. And am still paying in as I work my part time gig at Enterprise still, 2 years as of December 3rd. Luckily, my civil service pension check is a decent amount, figured on my 31 years of government service. And it's in our checking account the first business day of every month. I was told on my first day at the post office, "you'll never get rich here but, you'll make an honest living" and that has proven to be true. But, since I retired, they pay me, us, monthly, so no complaints on that front.
The secret to all of this we found many years ago, is to live below your means no matter what. We've always done that and raised our kids to do that also. We've always met all our needs and some of our wants which still seems to be working. Needs have to be met, that's just part of life but wants, want on the other hand, they can't always all be met but that's o k. Heck, I'd love to have 7 vehicles, one for every day of the week but, do I need that many? Of course not! Just need at least one to run properly daily. And luckily, we each have one for both of us.
We feel blessed and first thing I do every morning is thank G-d for waking up to another day! Nothing is a given and now that I'm the last of my siblings to still be alive, I take every day more seriously and enjoy the little things. And just hope for many, many more!

Yes, that is worth considering. I was hoping they would make one where the monitor part runs on batteries. It would even be good if you could just turn it on when actually needed. Working off the cigarette lighter isn't too bad.....if I wanted to leave my phone on and charged up it runs off the cigarette lighter too.
I like the solar power idea. For $130 it might be worth trying......though not having a backup camera is probably good for maintaining skills.

One problem is I am used to warnings when backing up or when changing lanes, in this car I expect to get a warning if I am backing into something...and it ain't going to happen, except for a big thud.

There’s your opportunity to roll off the hood of her minivan and claim she hit you. If she’s that oblivious how could she argue. Offer the order taker a cut to be a witness.

I’m sure they can make a backup camera system that is battery powered but it would have to be large enough to hold the batteries, thereby losing its attractive slim design. On top of that you’d probably have to change the batteries every other month. That would get very old and expensive so that’s why it has to be powered by the cars electrical system which is an almost limitless supply of electrical power compared to batteries.

Thank you for explaining BUT, we have a few security cameras at home and they record when there is motion and they work off of batteries. They last for months. If they can make a security camera that is fairly small, and it can last that long...and if they can get a man to the moon, then surely they could make a slim backup camera that will only get used for 2 minutes a few times a week. It could even be solar powered thru the windshield. I think you gave me an idea for a new invention.

    Alaska looks cold.

We went in Sept. Surprisingly, it had rained the week before we went, and heard it rained the week after. But, for us, it as sunny and in the mid-50ºs-low 60ºs when we were there. Saw the northern lights (which were tough to capture in a pic on my iPhone). It is a mystical, magical place.

Took a tour that was hosted by a couple who were retired teachers. They were probably close to my age and from AZ. But, had heard about doing tours in Alaska, and that most tour guides were college kids. They decided they could do it, too. They applied, were hired and trained by the tour company. They get subsidized housing (apt) during tour season (May thru Oct), a food stipend, healthcare, and discounts for various leisure activities. They’d been doing it 6 years and loved it. Tour company asked if they’d be interested in doing the same for them in Hawaii. They were headed there the week after our tour.

The wife said she’d give our contact info to the tour company as they’re always looking for other guides. I thought it was a great retirement gig. The GF? Not so much!

Given it seems no one is getting “deals” on new vehicles, has anyone here used Costco’s $1,000 Chevy incentive?

I think the only one in here that would be interested in that would be @imidazol97. On top of that he doesn’t live too far from you. The two of you could meet at his favorite place (Chic-fil-A) and talk about it. Just don’t expect him to buy.

I doubt that your security system has a display. That’s what sucks up the power even if it is only on for a few minutes a week. I have to think if it could be done, it would have been done already.

As for you inventing something, anything really, I’m glad you have a secure retirement. Talk is cheap. :D

I resent that inference. I defended GM from unfair, stereotyping criticisms.
But meanwhile Buick left me. And even Chevrolet left me with no suitable
sedans. Meanwhile, if I had to replace my 14 Malibu Generation 8, the Gen 9
is not the same car. Mine is much more showing its roots from Holden and Europe
in the driving experience, along with a higher seating position.

I'd have to look at a Venza and hope for a plug-in hybrid or for a Camry
right now. Does Costco have coupons for those?

I have to agree with you on this, GM and Ford listen up. I don't want a truck or a SUV or a high performance sports coup so that leaves out Ford, Dodge and Buick for my next car. Imports offer a much better variety of sedans to choose from.

Dodged another bullet today I think. after dinner, loaded up the DW, pushed the selector button on the touch pad, and nothing. Zippo. smacked it, closed the door a few times, poked all the buttons. Still dead. Even tried flipping the panel breaker. Nothing. Looked at all the GFIs, all fine.

so moved on to researching the pitiful supply of units at Lowe's, and planning with the wife to get up there tomorrow (or a local guy, but they don't carry Bosch).

so went out for a walk and got caught in a huge downpour and windstorm. Got completely soaked to the skin. Topper on the night! But on the way back in, flipped some breakers again. Came back in, opened the door, pushed the cycle button and all the lights came on, and it is currently washing away. No clue why, but not complaining.

after this and the flood a couple weeks ago, we are done nursing it along. Just going to break down and order one tomorrow, and hope this one works until it gets put in so we can do it on our terms!

Well said and well thought out. Many of us like our sedans, we like the feel of a car, cars are fun to drive, SUVs are work horses. Even though a Venza is an SUV it is almost car like. I like a trunk and I like the rear window to be behind the rear seats. It is getting harder to find an actual car anymore. I'd add the Accord to your list, probably more fun than a Camry.

a Venza is not an "SUV". Zero truck in it. Just a hatchback version of a sedan that sits a little higher.

well, can't say it is really going to be "happy" since it will still end up with my credit card taking a hit.

That rain came out of no where. I ran a bag of trash to the curb, shut the door and boom.

My DW did what yours is doing for a few weeks and then died. Albo Appliance was able to get me a Kitchen aid fairly quickly. Install guy was great too.

haven't been to Albo in years. Not sure how much time we will have to go places. May just end up with the easy way at Lowes, if they have the Bosch available.

but maybe I will take a run down there too.

Strange, I think the DW is the only piece of machinery (OK, that and the oven) in our house that Mrs. j knows how to operate and that suits me just fine.
