Are you a recent EV buyer (past 3 months) as a result of manufacturer incentives and dealer discounts on these vehicles, including year-end deals? From what I understand, if I need to change only one tire, it has to match the other one tread wise on that axle or it might screw up the abs braking system. Is this really true? If so, it might be better just to replace both but with a less expensive tire to save a bit on the cost. The price of tires has gone up since the pandemic from what I've seen. Just need to explore what options I do have here. I have seen other vehicles with mismatched tires on them and was wondering if that really is a good thing to do?

Is this true? No. That is an AWD issue, not an ABS issue. Plenty of ABS-equipped vehicles running around with mismatched tires without issue in that department.

Is this a good thing to do? No. Ideally, you wouldn’t want tires with differing handling characteristics in emergency maneuvers or bad weather.

Just get the extra tire and be safe. It’s still pretty cheap.

I am too car OCD to have mismatched tires. Would drive me nuts.

Think getting two new ones is the correct thing to do to be honest. I don't care how it looks, but if it's not the safest thing to do, well then I wouldn't do it. We've been having some torrential downpours this past week so having good tire tread is a real must down here. Am still very disappointed that Goodyear won't honor their road hazard policy after three years...have never heard such nonsense! Will just go local instead I guess. We did use Tire Rack many years ago and they had the tire delivered to our near Tires Plus and all went well but what happens if the tire they send has issues. How is that handled & who pays the shipping back & forth? Don't buy tires that often, bought the current set in 9/19, so going on four years of ownership on at least one, if not two of them.
Looked at Tire Plus and they no longer carry their Primewell tire brand. And their new in brand tire, Signature I think it's called, doesn't have a size to fit the Golf. Guess I could also check Firestone to see what they have. Not a Tire Kingdom customer anymore and the closest Discount Tire stores are up in Palm Beach county, at least 15 miles or so away from us. I'll figure something out as I'll probably need to buy a couple if I go with my Plan A.

Yeah, that’s something I have never quite understood, especially nowadays with the advent of cheap unknown-brand Chinese tires. I think it goes back to when I was a kid and Dad decided to get a set of Dunlops for his ‘67 Pontiac Parisienne when the originals wore out. He got them from the gas station he used because they were a Real Good Deal. After having 2 blow out on the highway and a third go flat less dramatically none of us wanted to ride in the car any more. Why you would want the thought of that in the back of your mind I don’t know. I never scrimp on tires.

And it is not just for safety reasons....cheap tires ruin the way the car rides and handles.
It's the same with cheap shoes, why be uncomfortable and possibly ruin your feet to save $20 bucks on shoes.

They also tend to not last long so end up being a false economy. Assuming you can afford the upfront premium.

Sounds like the Firestone 500 tire fiasco in the 70s. Firestone stalled on accepting a recall hoping all the tires taken off and ones that failed would be gone and wouldn't need to have compensation for.

I've had trouble with Goodyear tires when I replaced the tires on my 77 Cutlass Supreme. The replacements wouldn't balance (probably roadforce variation that we know about now). This led me to realize that when a tire manufacturer sends much of its product in a certain size to a new car manufacturer, the manufacturer gets the better quality (round) tires, and the rejects go out to the aftermarket to be sold to unsuspecting buyers who think they're getting OEM quality tires.

Back to Michelins every time. I can't afford to buy cheap tires. Having quality tires on the car is comforting every time I'm going down the road at 75 mph on a very hot or very cold day, and I don't have to think about a high rate of tire failure for those 4 postcard sized contact points with the pavement.

I am in total agreement with you on this topic, stick! Tires, to me, are the most important part of a vehicle because they determine how well a car will corner, stop, adhere to the road in rain, provide increased fuel economy, and can contribute to a quieter ride. The quality and reliability of the components that go into the manufacture and production of a tire result in a product that will perform at peak levels in situations of "stress" and will contribute to longer wear and stability. The better the quality control during the manufacturing process, the better the consistency of tire performance.

When it was obvious that my front tires were in need of replacement and decided to replace the rear tires as well (tires sizes are staggered on my G90), I checked out all the top tire manufacturers that produced tires in the sizes I needed based on reliability, quality, performance, design, warranty and recommendations based on road tests from organizations and agencies like Consumer Reports, etc. My choices were Continentals, Pirellis, Goodyears, Firestones and Michellins.

After deciding which brand and model of tires I wanted to put on the car, I then checked out pricing, out-the-door, which included mounting, balancing, etc. I decided on Michelin MXM4's and Costco had the best pricing by over $150 for the set of 4 tires. So far, I am extremely happy with these new tires over the 4 weeks I've had them installed.

I shop for tire bargains, but never the cheapest. This isn’t “the old days.” There is a plethora of information at your fingertips. Tires have many ratings associated with them to tell you how they will perform and wear. Spending top dollar, like anything else in this world, doesn’t mean you automatically get better quality.

I always refer back to when I bought a set of Sumitomos on which to run my G35X at the track. I went with the cheapest “ultra high performance summer tire” I could find. Sumitomo was a totally unknown name at the time. The tires turned out to be great and, what do you know? Sumitomo is a common and well-known brand now. And they have gotten a little pricier because they are better known and people will pay it. The quality is exactly the same as when they were the cheapest, however.

I put Sumitomo tires on my S10 in the early 2000s. I didn’t put a ton of miles on them, but they were great tires. When I gave the truck to my sister in law she put at least 40K more before junking the truck.

I once applied for a job at Goodyear and I went to a group class. This would be in the mid 70s.
The guy explained the best grade tires go on new cars so people will replace them with the same tires.
The next grade of tires goes to independent dealers, they can sell other brands so there is competition.
The lowest grade tires go to their own Goodyear dealers....they have to take them, no choice.

The car actually came with a beyond ridiculous 116 mph speed limiter. The Turner?Conforti chip took care of that. Even so, 130 mph is the best it can do. Funny thing; the BMW Bavaria ad I first saw in Car and Driver way back in 1971 promoted the fact that it could cruise at 12o mph and hit 130 mph for short bursts. In any event,100 mph is about as fast as I want to cruise in the Club Sport as the motor is spinning at 5,000 rpm.

The false pretense of aggressive sport and outdoorsy ruggedness hawked to the average Janes and Joes who were happily buying Civrollas 20 years ago. What amazes me is the pointless rear quarter window is an actual opening and not the DLO fail happily installed by sycophant designers for years. Thick pillars and rear quarters = blind spots, and if you honk when it attempts to hit you, you're the bad guy.

That looks like a 1972 in Riviera Blue- the same color as my old car. You really have to love the E3 to take on the job of restoring one; they haven't appreciated like the E9 coupes so you might well spend considerably more than the finished car would be worth.
Still, I could definitely see owning another- with a 3.5 M30, five speed manual, and an upgraded HVAC system. They really are nice cars.

Several hours ago, I tried to use my WiFi on my phone and it wasn't working. I tried to turn on my TV's, and there is no picture or sound on any of the three TV's in my condo. So I called Comcast/Xfinity to find our what was going on and was informed that there is a huge outage affecting tens of thousands of customers. They said it won't be repaired until after 4:00 PM this afternoon. I wanted to watch the US Open but it looks like I'll have to wait until after 4:00 PM which is only an estimate.

I would go out to a movie theater or shopping mall, but it's raining so hard, there is no way I'm leaving my condo. No fun when you are limited in what you can physically do. Bah-Humbug!!! :s

Mike - download the Xfinity Stream app on your phone. Log in with your usual Comcast login. You’ll have access to all the channels you subscribe to on your phone.

Note the small window, weird crease lines...black out wheel wells look like big huge wheel openings.

    You nailed it!

A few pics of my SIL RDX Advance she bought new to replace the TL which she also bought new, in the background. The RDX has 54k and looks new. The OEM Continental tires still have around 5/32 but will be replaced soon.

What kind of a conversion is that? And while I’m at it why is MPH shown at the bottom left of the tachometer?

Happy Fathers Day to whom it may apply.
Been dog sitting all weekend. LuLu loves the lawn.
Also, today's project, putting up sun shades on the porch.
