The 2015  E Class is scheduled for wholesale release middle of next week which means the cars should hit dealerships on or before October 26th

Mike....did you see my post from yesterday? My sales assistant says mine is due to arrive Nov1st....which is strange because that is a Saturday (maybe he means by Sat). Should be ready for the Florida drive by the 7th.

We have a lesson scheduled for the 28th. Not much time to set garage door openner and transfer music into hard drive etc.

Decided to go all in with my HVAC replacement. Getting new high efficiency gas furnace, A/C unit and water heater. Should get more savings from heating side than cooling.

What a coincidence: I just had our furnace and A/C coil replaced yesterday. Did not go with the 96% efficiency furnace because it would have never paid for itself in our case (my gas bill is really low already and the additional work to convert our chimney put it about $1200 over the 80% furnace). I opted to keep with our current AC compressor because it is only 12 years old compared to the 18 years on the furnace.

Sadly, it is already broken. It got very warm in the house yesterday while the installers were there, so we turned on the AC just before they left. House went from 80 to 78 degrees, then stopped. Sigh.

Driver - you'll have plenty of time.

Was admitted to hospital last night with bacterial pneumonia.  Bad things just never end for me.

I had a fever of 101.6 F and higher for a number of days and could not break it.  So I entered the hospital and after several IV doses of antibiotics, the fever broke,  They told me I'll be here for 4-5 days until the oxygen saturation in my blood traces 95% without being on oxygen.  So I hope to be out by the time the car arrives.

Mike, I have to hand it to you....you even keep in touch from a hospital bed! You have a goal to shoot for so you can be out when the new E comes in.,

I do remember when new car day was a big thing. When Ford would introduce the 1957 or 1959 cars they would give you a particular day, like Oct 7th to see the new models. Kids and people like me couldn't wait to see the new models, and every year they changed so much.

Today, the date is when they have sold down the current years models. It is a very fluid date. I think it is clever, but not as exciting. Funny, you were given the date of Oct 26th, and I was given Nov 1st, both Saturdays....it makes me think they should arrive that week, and they are giving the latest date possible.

Adapt/evolve or die. There's no other option.

Did you know that Best Buy will match Amazon's prices? Since I have to pay sales tax for Amazon purchases now, for some purchases it's easier/faster to go to Best Buy. I can tke the item with me right there and then instead of waiting a week or so (for a TV purchase for example.)

However, Best Buy is still not capitalizing on its best asset -- people to give advice. My last couple of visits have been to best Buy were a pain. I knew more about the item I wanted that the Best Buy guy. SIGH.

Tiny update: On Tuesday I called the lady from GM Financial back about the end of my lease. Got her personal voicemail so I told her that since I had never heard from my dealer about any other options and that since I needed something to drive, I would probably be buying the car unless someone was interested in selling me something new. No response after 2 days.

I was gassing up yesterday behind an X5 and was impressed by the size of the tires...they were huge! Extremely wide. I pondered how much a tire like that would cost.

And they are Run Flats too. A set of tires for my X3 was $1200 to around $1600......the X5's tires are probably $100 to a few $100 more than that! Tires for the 535 are about $350 each.

There was a story a month or so ago, where one of the car mags had the tires/wheels stolen off their long term Fusion. Replacement cost, over $4300. Same as I have and they do look good. I guess the bad guys feel the same way. :(

just curious, so I checked. OE tires for a V8 X5 sport are $270-$320 a pop at tire rack. Not including tax or shipping or installation. so yeah, new sneakers is going to hurt.

5 specialists! It sounds like you are getting the best care possible. Hope today is better for you.

I just watched a pretty good overview of a Mercedes E400....shot in Turkey. Car looks like mine, white with black roof. The video is almost 30 minutes long, but showed how most controls work, and gave a good run down of the features. It is pretty amazing what this car has and can do.

    2015 E400 impressions

Then I watched a short review of a 2015 CLS 500. It certainly is jazzier and incredibly beautiful. But, and it is just a personal opinion, I liked the space and the practicality of the E400 more. It depends on what suits a particular individual, and I know the CLS is very special looking, but, I know the 400 will be more suitable for me.

Maybe I missed it, but why not call the dealer and set up an appointment to visit so you can see what your options are? Turn in your car, buy out the lease or buy something else? I hate waiting around. Like I've always thought, unless you're sitting in the dealer's showroom, there isn't going to be a lot of business to be transpired. They can't do anything until you decide what you want to do anyway.

You can get it all resolved at the dealership in an hour or two instead of waiting for them to call you.

Oh, I agree, and that is what will eventually happen. This is just a commentary on how disinterested all involved seem to be in trying to sell me anything at lease-end. I get addressed mail from other dealers whom I have never even dealt with asking me to come in, offering me things to do so, etc. Meanwhile the one dealer I have a current relationship with seems totally oblivious. It is fascinating to me.

I think the E180 is probably the European name for the E400...they seem identical. It could be a diesel model though, as the diesel model here is an E250, and they could have a smaller diesel for Europe.

It gave the feel of being in the car a bit though. The guy was a bit scarry, sometimes speeding up when he was on urban streets.

It sounds like a case of the right hand not caring what the left hand is doing. Leasing company just wants their car back, or a pay-out. Dealer is not aware your lease is up.

I would like to know what happens when you actually visit the dealer. Please make an appointment so we know what the final deal will be be.....do you buy back the current car, or do they give you a deal you can't refuse on a new one?

At one point in the video he quotes the spec. He says it is a "petrol" engine and throws out HP/torque numbers that are very low - I thought he said 156HP. It is a very small engine.

I thought I heard the word "petro" used too. I can't find any information in English about an E180. There is quite a bit of info about C180's, which are only sold in a few countries, Turkey being one. Older models had about 140 hp. I guess that is what they drive in Turkey...but the tester did say it was fast.....though, everything is relative.

Can this be right? We got our insurance policy for the Passat which is in Florida. For 6 months the cost is $238!
We got these discounts: Safe Driving Club $66, Homeowner $39, Alert Driving $36 (don't even know what that means), Passive restraint $20, New Car $4, Responsible payer $9, Risk avoidance $23, anti-theft $2.50, anti-lock brakes $7.50, Electronic Stability Control $6. TOTAL $214!

Is this a great country or what. I think other years 6 months did cost about $460.

The E180 is equipped with a 1.6L 4 cylinder petrol. From an article I found, Turkey has a high auto tax based on displacement hence little motors in big cars. BMW offers a 520 with a 1.6L petrol as well. I presume these motors will be offered in other countries that tax based on displacement.

@abacomike‌ Thanks for keeping us updated from your hospital bed. Please get better soon my man!

Well, it looks like kidney disease/failure as well as the pneumonia.  When it rains, it pours.  They have to change my diet and are scheduling me for an ultrasound to get a better look at the kidneys.  Things are not looking up - at least not yet.

Way to go Rob....I spent quite a bit of time and couldn't find anything about an EClass 180. That's interesting that they have to use these underpowered engines in order to save money on surcharges for displacement. I can't imagine driving a car as big as an E Class, with a 4 cylinder engine. Unless it was absolutely necessary, I'd go with a C Class in that situation.

The article noted that 0-100 kph was about 9 seconds. Not a blistering pace by today's standards but for you "mature" guys in E classes, that's probably enough excitement for you.

9 seconds is pretty slow. It's about the same as a Hyundai Elantra, actually almost a second slower. I don't need the power to get from 0 to 60 in 5 or 6 seconds, but I may need it to get onto the highway from 50 mph to 70 mph. even if I am a "mature" guy. B)

Funny thing; my Mazda is not extremely fast from a stop(0-60 in @5.4 seconds) but according to Car and Driver in the 50-70 run in top gear a dead stock MS3 is as fast-or faster-than a Boss 302, Camaro ZL1 or Challenger SRT. And mine is even quicker than that...

Are you sure they put comp/collision in there? It does seem awfully cheap.

My CLS clocks 0-60 in 5.2 seconds.  EDMUNDS got their test model to 60 in 4.8 secs.  My experiences with the car are the short period of time I get to 80 from 35 mph.  It gives you whiplash.  454 lb ft of torque w/402 hp gets the job done.

Can't wait to drive that twin turbo V6 w/329 hp and 355 torque.  Should be interesting.
