Chevrolet Cavalier hood release cable

The hood release cable on my wife's Cavalier broke. My problem is, how can I get the hood lock to release. I've removed the front grill but still cannot reach anything that feels like a release lever or anything else that might release the hood. Can anyone advise me what I need to do to get the hood release to unlock? Thanks, HKD

    I forgot to state the year of the Cavalier w/the broken hood release cable. Sorry! The car is a 1987 4 door model. Thanks, HKD

    This happened on my sons 86 Cavalier wagon. I reached up from underneath (kind of had to feel my way) and with a screw driver I released the hood. I then shortened the cable and put the release up front in the grill. Hope this helps. Let me know since my daughter has a 88 Cav at school and I'll give it a good look at to see if I can be of more help.
