Who Needs B Pillars? - 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG Long-Term Road Test
The 2005 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class does not have a B pillar, which makes for superior windows-down motoring.

what i dont understand is why more coupes dont omit the B pillars. im sure the answer surrounds the issue of sturctural rigidity, but i would love to see more manufacturers overcome it for the pure aesthetic glory, just as they do with convertibles.
Like I said previously, this one feature is the only reason to own a big MB coupe. The sedan this is based off of is far more practical and offers more luxuries to boot. However, there is simply nothing like dropping all four windows and cruising. Its the primary reason i keep my 560SEC, even though she has a drinking problem.
Engineering the body structure for rigidity and sealing for water and wind noise is probably to expensive. The price tag of the MB reflects the amount of work involved.
