2008 Volvo S80 Complete Power Loss

Experienced a complete power loss while driving last night. Looked under the hood, checked fuses, removed battery cover to check connections. Re-installed battery cover, shut hood and magically had power again. Drove 1.25 miles home, entered garage, put in park and the car completely lost power again. Key wouldn't even eject!
Has anyone had this experience? If so, what could be causing it and what had to be done to fix the issue? Thanks for your help.....

battery replaced recently/ever? if not, then it's well past time, and first step should be to install a new/pre-charged battery. there may well be another problem too but diagnosing electrical issues with an old/half-dead battery can be misleading.

Yes. Battery less than a year old. Connections are clean and secure. Don't think its the battery in this case, but will check it out as a possibility.

yeah, sounds like it's likely not the battery - probably something more insidious/difficult. :|
(and probably you already know that if you use the car solely for short-trips, any new battery could become discharged and/or permanently ruined after only a year. )
