Our 2014 Volkswagen Passat gets pretty toasty inside. How does it handle the heat?

Chrome strips on the tops of the door panels on my '03 accord also get pretty hot!
I find that most new cars that use a variable displacement compressor are like this. The compressors are more efficient and can maintain a comfortable temp because they run constantly without cycling. The downside is that on startup it sometimes takes a while for the compressor to get to 100% output. Once there though...ice cubes. Don't know if the Passat uses this type of compressor but it sounds like it does.
I have this same complaint with my 2013 Passat. Between the black leather steering wheel and the metallic trim on the shifter, my hands are burning before I've even left the driveway!
Baby sock on the shifter...problem solved. Knob socks are hand savers this time of year in FL!
Is a sunshade standard issue on all cars in the long term fleet? That's what a lot of owners use, and it's a good idea to see how you'd store it in different vehicles.
