We leased a 2012 F150 new back in 2012 that has the keypad on the door. Never really thought about the the pad cause with the keyless entry we really don't feel a need....however, until you lock your keys in the truck. Anyway, we took it to Ford where we bought it because we couldn't get it to work, it doesn't even light up. They mess around with it, claim they ordered a part...they call us when the part come in, we take it there, they then say (after keeping it ALL DAY) this truck is not equipped with a keypad..WHAT? it's right in front of you, of course it's equipped. They are telling us that just because it's there doesn't mean it comes with the vehicle....I have never heard of a such a thing...what, it's now decoration that I'm sure I paid for...does anyone know if they are trying to pull a fast one maybe because they have no clue or is this the way Ford does business?

If I recall, there was an aftermarket "stick-on" unit that you could buy from the dealer back when. why someone would do that and not activate it or wire it up, I have no idea.

this was not aftermarket...it was there when we leased the truck brand new in 2012, I realize it's 2 years and why we haven't done anything about it till now is beyond me. It's husbands truck so....nuff said! LOL I just don't buy their excuse that it's there but it's not there.

From what I've read, this was a dealer-provided item that the dealer could add onto a new truck. But since you are the original leasor, chances are you would remember this!

It's a puzzle. Apparently you need a certain type of SJB (Smart Junction Box) to program this keypad, and if you don't have the right SJB installed, then the dealer won't be able to do it.

So the only far-fetched theory I can offer you is that the dealer installed a factory keypad onto a truck that didn't have it originally, perhaps as a feature to make the vehicle more attractive to a buyer---but, this is apparently a no-no, you can't install a factory keypad on a truck that wasn't built with it from the factory, because the SJB is different.

If you don't buy that one, I'm outta ideas! LOL!
