Chevy Cavalier coupe transmission clanks into gear

My transmission on my 99' cavalier coupe clanks into gear when I shift into drive from park reverse or neutral. Is this something all cavaliers do? It will sound loud from the outside but there are some days I'll be backing up and when I shift into drive it won't clank into gear.

    Miles? Suspect a CV joint. Make different sounds when turning or braking?
