Clunking shuddering noise. Mercedes 300-Class.

I stopped at the light and my car all of a sudden starting making the noise above...like a real loud aggressive clunking noise and then shudders at low speed. It only makes this noise in drive or reverse not in neutral. I have not tried to drive it at high speed.

Any ideas on what it could be?

Well by all means do NOT attempt to drive this car at high speed. That sounds quite serious. Broken CV joint?
