2015 Nissan Altima gas mileage

I just purchased a 2015 Altima SL. What I loved about the car was the mileage per gallon. It started out good. When I purchased the car when filled it would say I could go over 400 miles. Now when I fill the car it only says I can go 318 and it rapidly falls. My commute is 16 miles total to and from work. It just doesn't make sense to me. I've tried using Chevron mid grade as well as shell regular. When I purchased the car and asked what gas to use I was told I could use any. I previously had a 2003 Altima 3.5 and downgraded to the 2.5 to save on gas now I am disappointed. Anyone else having this issue or know what I am doing wrong?

I am getting between 30 to 32 mpg based on type of drive (city / state hwy / toll roads) with medium use of AC/Heater in car.
My display shows 31.3 mpg for the entire average. But I can easily drive 480 to 520 miles for a full tank of gas (16 gallons) at Costco. I use their regular unleaded gas only and don't change gas station unless I am taking vehicle out of town on a long trip.
I would say lower mileage really depends on your driving style.
Hope this helps.
Mine is still in shop for a second issue now with power steering rack. :-(
Generally, the Altima does NOT get good fuel efficiency for city driving, based on my experience with an older 2005 Altima 2.5 S and now 2014 2.5 SL model and based on various comments on online auto forums.
If you do mainly city driving, with hardly any hwy miles, the mileage could be in the lower 20 mpgs.
If you do some hwy but mainly city driving, it could be in the mid-upper 20s.
If you do mainly hwy, it could be in the mid-upper 30s.
Note:
Winter driving makes it worse, at least in my older 2005 model.
Fuel economy was bad during the winter: ~18mpg/city, ~25mpg/hwy and ~21mpg/mixed.
It'll be interesting to see the fuel economy this 1st winter with my newer 2014 Altima 2.4 SL.
To increase fuel efficiency:
1. Don't drive with a heavy foot.
2. Keep rpms <2000 like ~1500 city or hwy, which is achievable
3. You don't need Premium grade gas as Regular gas is recommended. Regular gas provides better fuel efficient on my 2014 model while I used to use Premium gas on the older model which did provide Better fuel efficiency.
4. Try using Full Synthetic oil instead of either regular or partial synthetic oil on your regular oil changes.
5. Check the tire pressure to make sure it's properly inflated. Sometimes, a dealership may overinflate the tires.
Distance 93.1 miles. Speed 68 m/h. Filled up a gas at the beginning of trip and at the end.
At the end of the trip a digital meter in the car shows 44.4m/gallon.
Again filled up the gas. Loaded 1.92 gallons.
So average consuming 45 m/g.
Soon will repeat city consuming.
My 2014 Nissan Altima SL gets very good highway mileage as it has ~33k on it now.
Use regular gas but have switched over to 0-W20 wherever I can find it as many dealerships and auto centers do NOT carry it!
The car computer mileage shows ~38-44mpg so I'm averaging ~40mpg Highway while Mixed driving shows ~32mpg while city driving ~28-32mpg.
The mileage as lower when using 5W-30 Full/Partial synthetic, depending on the brand, but Nissan's version is partial synthetic which many dealerships use and many carry Mobil 1 Full synthetic.
Switched over to Pennzoil [Platinum] Full Synthetic 0-W20 helps very much. Change oil ~5,000 miles though sometimes it can be over but <7,500 miles.
Don't have a heavy foot and drive somewhat conservatively on long commutes on highways so NO need to rush which helps with fuel economy.
Make sure the tires are fully inflated as many Nissan dealerships like to use 36-38 psi on the tires for better handling though you can use less pressure during the winter for better grip/traction.
