Was the email from a BMW representative about the computer update something that a non-Edmunds BMW owner would receive? I would also think that the dealership should be able to check for any service bulletins that have not been applied to the car and recommend that they be applied while the car is being serviced.

I've seen the above comment quite often and I have to ask- does the Edmunds staff alert all service writers that they are, in fact, employed by Edmunds? People seem to think that you get special treatment because you work for Edmunds and share the experiences online. Not trying to ruffle feathers; just genuinely curious how much foreknowledge the dealers have of your employment as automotive journalists.

i think they have said in the past they don't tell service people that they are edmund's employees but if the vehicle is a manufacturer loaner the dealership will likely know at least that... also, the address they use can often give them away.
