Chevy Corvette LT1 oil leak.

I have a 1996 Corvette with an LT1 engine and it has an oil leak (somewhere). It seems like a leak should be easy to find; that is not the case here. The dealer charged me 40 bucks to tell me that they could not find the leak; but, would, for $3000. remove the engine and reseal it...BUT, no guarantee for success. I am still wondering why I paid them the 40 bucks.

    Ah, the old shotgun approach. Sometimes you can pinpoint a leak by placing dye in the oil and then flashing a "black light" to illuminate the dye as it leaks out. Nifty trick when it works.

    Well maybe we can at least eliminate some things by answering these questions

    1. What color is the fluid that's dripping? Are we certain it is engine oil?

    2. What part of the engine does it fall from--front, rear, left side, right side?

    3. Will it drip if the engine is idling and you bend down to look?

    4. Does it leave a noticeable stain anywhere on the engine? Where is that?
