2002 Hyundai Elantra Rust Problems with Control Arms

My Hyundai Elantra was recalled about 3 years ago. Dealer inspected right and left control arms, supposedly applied rust preventive. BUT then two days ago, the left control arm snapped in two! Fortunately I was in a parking lot...if I were on the road God knows what would have happened! Car is at dealers. Anyone out there have any experience with this?
