Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0 Problems Help

A friend of mine has a 2002 chevy 2500 HD 4x4 truck with the 6.0 gas motor in it.
He had 2 freeze plugs push out in the back of the motor. He had them both replaced, and no leaks are seen anywhere now.
Checked the oil for water, and oil pressure when running. Both are fine.
There is now no heat in the truck. the truck can sit and idle for a hour or better and not overheat... But still no heat.
But once you try to drive, it over heats very fast.
I've heard a few things this could be. cracked block? head gasket? water pump?
The engine has no knock and no oil or water leaks on the block.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
