Chevrolet Equinox

  • laserbluelaserblue Posts: 313's done.
Last night I went and traded-in my 2005 Equinox LT (that was bought new) for a 2010 Chevrolet HHR LT (with the 2.4 L engine).
My Equinox has been pretty good. Most repairs where done under warranty. The only repair I had to pay for was a "blown head gasket" + the normal maintenance.
I just hope I'll have the same fun driving the HHR than the Equinox.

What are the pros and cons between 16" tires versus 17" tires?
  • dmathews3dmathews3 Posts: 1,739
For the most part the 16" tires are going to have larger side walls which means lower air pressure due to the fact they don't have to be so hard that hitting a pothole will damage the wheel. Also less sidewall = more of a risk of the wheel getting damaged.

For those of you who bought a recent Equinox, did you also consider the GMC Terrain? What were your reasons for choosing one over the other?

Personally, I like the exterior styling better; but they both are nice vehicles.

I didn't like it at first but I have to admit the Terrain is growing on me. It looks so much more like a SUV and more rugged even though mechanically it's the same.
  • anyone found a solution for annoying glare from chrome latch on dashboard of 2010 model? (other than just driving on dull days!)

Been very happy with the nox for almost 2 yrs now 08 Lt fwd. 51000Km (30,000mi) . took it to the dealer for a possible a/c noise. Got it back "No fault found." Then later today went to start the car at a restaurant. car would not even turn over and dash said "service security system" tried several times even using a 2nd key still no joy. Onstar sent a tow truck, he first tried to jump start it again no luck. Released the hand brake, went to put it in neutral thought I would try 1 more time and it worked.
Tried 3 more times and started each time. Sent the tow truck on it's way. Went home put something in the back drove for 20 minutes, went to open the hatch and it would not open, no sound nothing, as if it was locked. Manually unlocked and locked 2 time, no joy, key fob lock and unlock, no joy. All other locks working. Pulled it out the side door went home hatch working like a charm again. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks.

For me I preferred the blue interior lighting over the red. The red was too hard on the eyes for me. I also like the styling of the Equinox over the boxy look of the Terrain.

Same here, was interested in both but the curves and smoother ride of the Nox won out. My son preferred the Terrain, it looks more like a truck. The Terrain has 18" wheels and those I test drove road a little harder than the Nox on 17s. After hemmin and hawin over the two, I couldn't justify the extra thou for the Terrain on top of the look and ride.

Also, opted for the granite metallic black which I believe they now call Carbon Flash. When washed and shined it looks A One, but you know the story with black. 2nd choice was the mocha metallic. Which ever exterior color, you have to go for the mono black interior. Those two tone interiors they offer now just don't look as nice, especially the brown and black combo.

  • We chose the 'Nox over the Terrain because my wife and I preferred the body styling of the 'Nox more. The Terrain definitely has a unique body shape, but it just wasn't our cup of tea. I also agree with the ambient blue lighting in the 'Nox being more appealing than the red in the Terrain.
  • I've got to disagree with the jet black/brownstone combo not looking as nice. When my wife and I were at our local Chevy dealer, we spotted a Mocha Steel Metallic 'Nox with the jet black/brownstone interior. We knew right then that was the exact combination we wanted. As a result, we should be receiving our LTZ with sunroof and navigation around the end of June. The interior photos on Chevy's official site show how sharp the jet black/brownstone combination looks. I would go with the mono black interior as a second choice.

I drove my Nox about 6 months before I experienced this blinding glare. For now, I put masking tape over it. Am thinking of painting it or having it painted for a professional look. I have a friend who owns a body shop who would do it for me. Just haven't gotten around to it. Everything else is so nice on the Equinox, I just can't understand how they could make such a stupid mistake as this. Disappointing. Haven't written a review yet but intend to. Got my 2010 Nox in Oct 2009, and overall am pretty happy with it.

I'm interested on a 2011, but I couldn't believe how uncomfortable the middle position is in the rear seat! My back against the folded up arm rest/cupholder was so uncomfortable. Anyone have any comments about this?

So it is June 2011 and it still has the same problem. I am wishing I did not buy the Equinox for just this reason... The rear headrests are downright dangerous with the blind spots they create.... The back seats might as well not even fold down...the extra space is unusable as it's so angled...
  • We recently purchased a brand new 2012 Equinox LS. The minute we drove it home we could smell a burning/hot smell...we assumed it was just because it was brand new. However, after a longer drive one day we brought the car back and it smelled really awful. We checked the oil and it didn't register...we put carboard underneath and oil was pouring out. We took it to our local garage and they had it a week, replacing the rear main seal and galley plugs. So after 1000 miles the engine and transmission had to be taken out to fix this problem. Now a week later, we will be returning back to the shop because it is still leaking. We've spoken with GM about what is happening and they aren't a lot of help. Is anyone having this problem?? Did your garage know how to fix it??
  • Anybody who owns / owned CHEVROLET EQUINOX 3.4 LT AWD? I need pros / cons ?

All comments are more than wellcome..

    Many thanks...

PS: By the way this is my first posting here :)

    Uh, there is no "3.4" Equinox! It's either a 2.4 4 cyl or a 3.6 V-6...take your pick..... :confuse:
