AWD symbol doesn't appear when stuck

This is my first Honda. I bought it last September. I live in the midwest. This being winter we have snow covered roads with some ice in spots.

I have yet to see the 'AWD' light come on.

During the past week the CR-V has twice gone off the road and become stuck in the snow. It felt like the CR-V was literally 'yanked' off the road. A foot maybe two off the road, not far. The front end pointed a few degrees away from the road. Locally I think we have maybe about five or six inches on the ground.

In trying to get myself unstuck, I saw that despite the front wheels spinning, the rear wheels weren't engaging.
I see from other forums that part of the problem may be the Bridgestone tires. But again, never saw the AWD indicator. I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.

Hhmm Not sure on the Honda, but on my vehicles the only time the AWD light might come on is if there is something wrong with AWD system. If the front wheels are spinning and no power at all can be seen going to rear wheels then there really should be an indication of something being wrong assuming it is the AWD version and not FWD.

Yeah... I don't own the current model, but I've had two previous generations... On those, no indicator for when the AWD system was working.

Sounds like your right side tires ran off the road, and the snow piled up there pulled you to the right.. The CR-V is fairly light for an SUV, and is easily pulled off course, if you run out of the plowed lane.

Can't say if your AWD system is working properly, but crappy OEM all-season tires is par for the course.

If it's a 2015, someone had posted an internet video showing that the rear wheels will not engage if they are not rotating. Apparently, torque is transferred only if rear wheels are rotating.
