What is the numbering sequence for ignition coils in a 2004 Camry 4 cylinder?
My mechanic told me I had misfire in #2 cylinder. He replaced the plugs, but says I also need an ignition coil. What is the numbering sequence in the coils? I'm going to replace it myself and don't know which one is #2.

Do not pay a mechanic to replace these coils, it is two nuts and one bolt to do it yourself. Remove the plastic cover over your engine block (where you put oil in the engine, it is two 10 mm nuts), underneath you will find your coils, either four or six depending on whether or not your engine is 4 or 6 cylinder. The bolt in the coil is 10 mm also, as you look at the coils they are numbered from left to right, #1 coil is all the way left if you are facing the engine. Unplug the wire harness from the back of the coil, pull up on it and it pops right out (your spark plugs are underneath it FYI if you want to change those yourself also, one plug under each coil).
So with a 10 mm wrench, about $100 for the part and 5 minutes of your time you can do this yourself. Sorry to all of those that were fleeced by mechanics. $300...sheesh!
I'm sure you could find a diagram on your models engine which will help you locate coils.23 Telluride SX-P X-Line, 23 Camry XSE

A pair of needle nose pliers can be used to push them if they are too tight to remove by hand. The #2 coil is the second one in order from the timing belt. So standing in front of the car, the timing belt is on your left the cylinder ID's are 1,2,3,4.6
