The BMW i3 has two cupholders, but one can be moved to different positions on the center console.

My first MINI (ca. 2005) had an OEM free-floating cup-holder. Yes, it looked a bit "aftermarket," but as a cup-holder, it was perfect: handy and commodious. I can see that this is the same.

This is fine but I'm not wowed by it. This seems to be a nod to BMW's sad history of over engineered barely functional cupholders. The main cupholder appears to have a rubber tab or something to secure smaller cups. The add-on cupholder doesn't seem to have this. Also, the add-on cupholder doesn't have walls so it's fine for a cup but you can't put any smaller loose items in it which I do all the time. If I had this car I'd probably put two of the add-on cupholders for cups and leave the main one for other loose items. Still, I'd rather have two real built-in cupholders.

Typical BMW. Charging you extra for a cupholder.

But I have to agree with the comments about BMW cupholder design. Most examples I've encountered have been extremely flimsy and don't give me much confidence in their ability to support the average large-sized soda cup you'd find at any given gas station here in America. It may be a German thing, but Audi and VW have had much better luck with cupholders as far as I can tell.

Also, the USB, AUX and Power outlets are all too low in that compartment. This is one of those things that doesn't matter at all in a test car environment but when a car belongs to one family, that family usually manages to fill up these compartments with junk. That junk would obscure these outlets and/or damage the plugs that stick out from them.
