Dealer holdback

Hi all,

I'm in the hunt for a new Q50. I'm looking at a 2015 Q50 AWD Base. I have VPP, which gives me a pretty good discount off MSRP, and the dealer has also offered to give me the ~$1300 that Infiniti reimburses the dealer for customers who use VPP.

In the past, I know that Infiniti has holdbacks of 1-1.5%, but in this case the dealer said that Infiniti no longer has holdbacks, and by selling the car to me at invoice - $3000 lease incentive - $1300 VPP rebate, they are making no profit. They said they need to get 15 more out the door before Tuesday, so he was fine with not making a profit on this vehicle.

I want to understand if Infiniti still has dealer holdbacks, and if they are able to sell under invoice price?

Thanks,
Dave

We still show "Infiniti 1.5% of the Base MSRP".

Note that the article was last revised in 2013, so maybe Infiniti has changed.

The other wrinkle is that invoice doesn't mean much these days. (USA Today)

Who knows where the dealer is making its profit. You could get a screaming deal because meeting the quota means a higher bonus number overall for the dealer.

Exactly right .. there are so many programs that exist between the manufacturer and the dealer that the public will never know about.

Invoice is just a number to use as a reference; it has nothing to do with the amount the dealer paid for the car.

Yup. You guys were right. I was able to push the dealer lower. I appreciate the insight.

I'm impressed. I thought VPP = "lowest possible price", so I paid it. Guess that was just wishful thinking.
