The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado falls short on some key off-road attributes, but this new midsize pickup does offer style, space, a strong engine and the inspiration for getting out and using it.

A friend and I were all about the Colorado until we saw one in person, too tall and narrow looking and no actual off road ability. He almost traded his STi in on the current Tacoma but is now waiting for the new Tacoma coming out this fall.

I'm pretty sure my next vehicle will be a truck and as much as I like the new GM twins I don't think I will take a chance with GM reliability. I will probably get a Tacoma or F 150. Yes I'm cross shopping F-150's and Tacomas because I'm sure Ford will be competitive on pricing to compete with GM and Toyota midsize trucks.

You girl friend wouldn't be your girl friend for long if she had to ride in the passenger seat of the Colorado. At least not if she wore shoes, and had size nine feet or larger.

I think Takahashi's cars usually appear on May 4th.

Would really like to see a side-by-side comparo of the Colorado and your Jeep Cherokee (or better yet a Cherokee Trailhawk) over the same off-road experience/trip. I know they're not the same vehicle type but for many, both are considerations. Please.

and as an xj owner you are one of the few people who can say you are also buying the colorado for the "jump" in fuel economy. at least a good 2 mpg gallon i bet!

I've always considered midsize trucks to be trucks for people who don really need a truck. Once you load one up with crew cab, 4x4, a decent stereo, and the "good engine," the price and fuel efficiency almost always land you in full-size truck territory. If you need a truck, buy the one that covers all your needs and leaves capability on the table for the times you need to do hard work.

Funny story...I crashed my motorcycle at the racetrack. Both me and the bike will recover in time to hit Star Wars day (May the 4th).

I disagree. Midsize trucks are extremely capable of fulfilling the NEEDS of most people. Thing is, you will be closer to the limit of the trucks capabilities. And that's OK. There's nothing wrong with loading the bed to 85% of it's rated capacity. Certainly no need to buy a full size truck for the same load, just because it can handle it "better". The only time my S-10 left me unable to do anything, was when it came to hauling more than 2 people comfortably.

People also keep saying for the price you can get a full size. Yeah, sorta. You are comparing a fully-loaded top of the line midsize, with every bell and whistle to a base model, rubber floor, still V6 powered, full size. So yes for the same price you can get more capability, but you will give up creature comforts. If you are okay with giving up creature comforts, then you can get a much cheaper midsize. I do agree that the fuel economy is crap. That part boggles my mind. If this V6 is just matching the Silverado's mpg, then theoretically, the Silverado's drivetrain in this smaller and lighter truck should do better. So drop in the V8 for the high efficiency model?!

I would love to see a picture of the people with size 9 feet that don't have enough space in the passenger-side foot well. There is as much room in the foot well area as any midsize car I've occupied. If you're wearing swim fins or ski boots, it might be tight.
