I woke up way before my alarm and couldn?t go back to sleep, so I grabbed the keys to our 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI and went for a drive.

That is the feeling the GTI can bring to you - I remember doing the same thing (well not exactly as I live in BC but you get my drift). Putting on KMs just to drive and enjoy the vehicle.

These sporadic early morning drives are always the most memorable, especially if you live in SoCal. I'm going finally try this GTI out this Saturday looking forward to it.

Just got my Mk6 Autobahn out from under the car cover after a long NE winter...car sees no salt or crap weather this way plus it's like getting a new car every spring...

Nice drive! I would love to drive that route but in a mid 60s Caddy convertible with the top down :-)

The important question: what podcast were you listening to?

Impromptu drives are good for the soul, especially in a car like that. I need to get out and take one soon.

Great post, Mike. I can totally relate to getting up early, not being able to fall back asleep, and going for a drive when the roads are nice and empty. The GTI is a perfect car for such an occasion and that's why I'm really considering eventually replacing my Civic with one. I'd definitely get the lighting package, though. Besides the safety aspect of having better headlights, it really completes the front of the car.

Oh I miss those early saturday morning drives back home in Orange County, er, I guess they counted more as late night in my case (1, 2am). While they're still enjoyable here in Arizona, they're not the same. Though, I'm sure they would be improved upon in one of these GTIs.
