2007 Vue a/c problem

I have a 2007 Vue, 4-cyl. The other day, while idling, the a/c cycled on and started making a loud grinding noise. It lasted until the a/c cycled back to normal, but would repeat nearly everytime it (the compressor?) kicked in. It seems to be blowing cold air ok, but I need to know what might be causing the noise. It sounds like a fan rubbing a housing, but only happens when the a/c compressor ramps up. Any ideas? Thanks.
