Odd.. What were the circumstances? Was a door open? I see that you're unbelted; maybe it thought you intended to exit the vehicle?

Agreed, more details needed. Does this happen after the auto-engine-shutoff disables and the engine fires back up? When the car is started?

Detail 1 - The door was open, which makes the ENGINE ON warning even more hilarious since the exhaust note is much more prominent. Detail 2 - I was not wearing a seat belt.

Never mind the enormous tachometer that is right next to it!

Probably overkill with the sound of the engine on that car but I guess in some really loud environments it could be missed.

I once stopped by a car lot next to a busy road after business hours to look at cars and as I walked up to one car I first noticed the smell of a hot engine but with the background noise I couldn't hear it running. The door was unlocked and the engine was running. It was back when the push button keyless starts were just coming out. Apparently they had started the car at some point during the day and then left and put the key away. It was putting off a fair amount of heat so it had been running for quite some time.
