I wonder if the new 4 cylinder will be as durable as those of Volvo's past. When I was a kid my friend's dad had a Volvo 740 (1987 I think) that he drove for years before giving it to my friend as his first car. He drove it all through college and finally got rid of it when the transmission gave out. I know it had well over 200,000 miles on it and I don't remember him ever having engine problems. A few electronic problems and weak sauce air conditioning but this thing was built to last.

This seems like a pretty fair assessment of the car. But it's disappointing when you read it and consider the car's price point or the fact that this is supposed to be a revolutionary powertrain for Volvo, one on which they are hoping to fuel a turnaround.
