Our long-term 2015 Acura TLX got into a collision and now it's at the body shop for repair. We got in to take some photos of the restoration.

So, still less than one maintenance trip to the dealer for the now departed Benz CL 65 AMG.

Most worrisome thing here is that the rear glass and rear seat had to come out due to the quarter being distorted up through the fuel filler door and C-pillar. Keep an eye on the trunk shutlines - the outer weatherstripping around the rear door will cover some slight misalignment with the quarter/C-pillar, but the trunk shutlines are metal edge to metal edge...they will tell the tale.

The rest of the stuff is pretty routine. I bet the B-pillar didn't move at all.

Just make sure they didn't break a bunch of interior trim clips getting it taken apart, and look for primer and paint overspray on adjoining panels where it can't be blended/buffed out (like inside door jambs), and especially on interior surfaces. Extra effort covering up the interior during paint operations will pay dividends later.

Honestly, the damages aren't as high as I thought they'd be.

Wow, my friend owns a 2013 BMW 328i and he got rear ended a while ago, we're talking a cracked rear bumper, cracked tail lights and a slighty bent trunk. Total cost for the dealer? 7K!!! This is much worse and its only 6K!

So much for the resale on this car. My VW got hit while it was parked and had similar damage to the rear quarterpanel. It's considered structural damage for Carfax purposes and when I went a year later to look at new cars I found that my car was worth about half of its blue book value. I was a bit shocked but the explanation was that it couldn't be sold as a CPO car anymore and they'd send it to auction instead, so values plummet.

With car accident repairs, the whole is always LESS than the sum of the parts!

Good comment from handbrake about resale, CPO eligibility in the future, etc.

BTW, the insurance company for the at fault driver who hit you won't tell you about that, you have to ask them. Then it will turn out that they have a whole little department for that aspect of the claims, if you ask. If not, they say nothing, you get nothing. I am waiting for that process now on my 2015 Volvo S60, currently at the body shop for some relatively light repairs to the rear bumper area from getting tail ended on the freeway in traffic. They way they will address this once the repairs are completed. We shall see.

Saulster, are you referring to diminished value claims for CA?

Mike, can you provide the labor rates?

I had the exact same experience with my old VW. $7000 in front-end damage from a kid backing up a pickup in a parking lot. The thing never looked the same again. The hood didn't line up right after it was replaced. And when I sold it to move overseas I think I lost about $2000 from what the value would've been.

it seems impossible to be this cheap. Are you sure $6k is not Edmund discount?

My 2002 M3 got keyed scratch in the fender, door and quarter panel it's like 3k already.

My friend front end collision changing bumper and hood and fender it's more like $14k and it's normal accord.

Your sledge hammer aluminum F-150 cost more than this if I recalled correct?
