2012 CR-V loses power and sputters at high rpm

should start by saying that I am a Canadian CRV owner, and my model isn't listed in the dropdown when I was given a choice. My model is a 2012 Honda Touring with Nav. Not sure what the equivalent is, but it's our top model. It now has 65,000 miles (110,000 km's)
Anyway, about a week ago I started having a problem with losing power when accelerating. After driving for about an hour, I went to merge onto a highway. When I stepped hard on the gas, the RPM's only went up to about 4000 and the car started to sputter and shake. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to accelerate to merge into traffic. I had to let off the gas, and slowly (painfully slowly) step back on the gas just to get it up to speed. It did this each time I tried to accelerate fast. That day, the last time it did it, the check engine light flashed and I had to pull over and shut the car off for a few minutes before limping home. So, I though maybe I had a bad tank of gas. Later that evening I went to fill up with premium gas and added an STP fuel injector cleaner. This seemed to fix the problem. The next day I bought some NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs and installed them, just in case they were the source of the problem. Again, this seemed to help for about a week. This last weekend was a complete disaster. Every time I went to accelerate, after the car had been driven in relatively hot weather, it would act the same as it did before. The check engine light came on a couple times, but not each time.
So I took it into my Honda dealership yesterday and explained my problem. They checked the codes, and said none came up, and they took it for a test drive and said it was running like new. I told them it only happens when it's hot out, and they drove it in the morning. I went to pick it up just after noon when it was hot out and took it for a drive. I was able to replicate the problem, so I went back to the dealership. The tech came with me for a ride, was able to see the problem and the check engine light flashing. So I went back to the dealership with him. During the drive I mentioned that I had changed the spark plugs. So when the advisor came to talk to me, they said the code that is coming up is for a misfire. They want to change the spark plugs and do a valve adjustment. I told them that it couldn't be the spark plugs because the problem started before I changed them, which is why I changed them in the first place. They insisted that I probably used the wrong plugs. So frustrated as I was I left it with them overnight to do the valve adjustment and am waiting for them to let me know if that fixes the problem. My concern with that is it is still cool out and I doubt the problem will happen this morning. It seems to only happen when it's hot out. Does anyone have any suggestions? A valve adjustment doesn't sound like the right fix, as the problem is intermittent, only happens when it's hot out and when I try to rev past about 4000 rpm.
