    That's disappointing to say the least. I've only heard the frequent-shifting complaints about 9-speed transmissions; I don't recall hearing any about 8-speed trans.

    this has the 9 speed.

    Awesome. 9 speeds of unsettled busy-bodying in town when you don't want it and complete recalcitrance on the highway when you actually need it to swap gears.

    The 9-speed has double-dog leg something that makes the shift between certain gears slow. Some manufacturers program the out the problematic gears unless conditions are perfect (cough: EPA test). A good 7 or 8 speed with a decent ratio spread will beat the 9-speed in real fuel economy.

    I can see the benefits of having 9 speeds, but it would be nice if the transmission could skip some of the gears during typical driving.
