Security System Key Needs Tweaking?

Hi. My 2008 Mazda 3 quit working the other day. It is not the battery. It is a 5 speed and will start if you pop the clutch but I don't want to be stuck doing that on a day to day basis. The AAA guy I called said it was the security system and needed the key recalibrated? I think or something like that. Anyone have that experience? How much did it cost? Hard to find a mechanic who can do it?
